Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chris Tweedy responded to a burglary in progress early last Tuesday morning at approximately 5:30 a.m. The residence was located on Pleasant Hill Road in the southern part of the county.
The homeowner of the residence called the Burkesville Dispatch Center and advised that he observed three individuals inside the residence on a real time live feed video.
Upon arrival at the scene, two individuals were identified coming out of the home, at which time a third suspect fled on foot into the woods.
Sheriff Scot Daniels arrived to assist Deputy Tweedy and the third suspect was apprehended after a short search in the wooded area.
The three individuals were identified as Christian Jones, 44, Jason Smith, 37 and Kourtney Portokalis, 31, all of Burkesville.
All three were arrested on the scene and charged with burglary second degree and possession of methamphetamine.
The investigation is continuing by Deputy Tweedy and more charges are forthcoming.

While conducting a traffic stop on Spring Branch Drive late last Monday, Burkesville Police Officers Keaton Williams and John Stalcup located and seized approximately one gram of crystal methamphetamine and a glass pipe from a suspect’s vehicle.
Landon F. Kirk, 26, of Burkesville, was arrested and charged with disregarding a stop sign, possession of a controlled substance first degree (meth), possession of drug paraphernalia and no registration plates.
Kirk was lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.
