A Hardy’s Chapel man was killed in a one-vehicle crash two weekends ago.

According to the crash report filed by Tennessee Highway Patrol Troopers Neil Matthews and Wade Williams, Ricky A. Carr, 52, of Curtis Road in the Hardy’s Chapel Community was driving his 1984 Chevy S-10 pickup north on Highway 136 when the vehicle dropped off the right shoulder while attempting to negotiate a curve. Carr then over corrected, sending the pickup into a yaw before it struck a tree on the left side of the roadway head-on. The vehicle reportedly rolled one time, coming to a rest on its driver’s side.

According to the report, the crash “occurred sometime overnight and…was not discovered until Saturday at 10:45 a.m.” Carr was reportedly dead when the crash was discovered.

The report said Carr was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Though such opinions are rare, the investigating troopers said they did not think use of the seat belt would have made a difference in the outcome of the crash.

According to the report, there was evidence Carr may have been driving under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash. At last report, the investigation into that aspect of the crash was ongoing.
