Foothills will give locals a chance to cheer the “Runnin’ Dawgs”

That nip in the air means a lot of things to a lot of people – get the furnace tuned up, find the long jeans, search out a few lightweight jackets and for those of us without the often taken for granted luxury of having hair on our “top knot” – picking up a new stocking hat to guard against that cool morning breeze.

It also means that it’s time for Clinton County’s fall celebration, the Foothills Festival, which kicks off this Thursday and continues through Saturday night.

If you’re wondering how that fits into a sports column, well, here you go . . .

Saturday morning’s Foothills Festival 5K Run gives local sports enthusiasts the rare opportunity to watch one of our fall sports athletic teams in action and especially the chance to cheer them on.

Each year, among the now crowded field of runners taking part in the Saturday morning 5K, are the members of our Cross Country team at C.C.H.S, the “Runnin’ Dawgs”.

With runners from the elementary through high school aged cross country teams taking part, these athletes will be easy to spot in their uniforms of blue and white.

In fact, at last year’s Foothill 5K, Runnin’ Dawg Joe Davis was very easy to spot among the field – he was the overall winner, crossing the finish line in front of the other 173 runners, with a time of 18:44.

Come on out early Saturday morning – find a spot along the route somewhere between the Mountain View Park and the finish line at Dyer Drug, and offer up some encouragement as these runners make their way toward Albany in this Foothills 5K Run.

Or better yet, sign up and jump in the race.

Registration begins at the park at 7:00 a.m., and the runners will hit the pavement at 8:00 a.m.

Congrats to our top Golf Dawgs

Congratulations are certainly in order to our two C.C.H.S. Golf Dawgs who qualified for and competed last week in the KHSAA State Golf Tourney at Bowling Green Country Club, Evan Shelley and Sawyer Stalcup.

Both young men should be commended on the way they represented Clinton County at the state.

Sawyer had an off day, as well as some equipment problems that saw him miss the cut after an opening day round of 84.

Evan finished the first day near the head of the pack, in third place and qualified for play on the second day – finishing in a tie for 15th out of a field that was over 100 golfers – quite a feat indeed.

Both of these young men wore the blue and white in style – thanks guys.
