The Traveling Kentucky Vietnam Wall, Inc. will be arriving in Burkesville at approximately 2 p.m. on Friday, September 13. The wall will then be open continuously Saturday morning, September 14 through Sunday evening, September 15 at The Pavilion at Dr. Shickel Veterans Memorial Park.

American Legion #119 is proud to host this event. They will also be celebrating the American Legion’s 100 year anniversary.

Cumberland County schools will line the sidewalk Friday afternoon as the wall comes to Burkesville from Columbia. Everyone is invited to join them to welcome the wall to Burkesville.

The wall will be escorted by numerous escort groups including our own American Legion Department Commander, Jerry McKinney.

On Saturday morning, an opening ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. The Kentucky National Guard will present the colors and the Cumberland County High School Band will perform the National Anthem.

A parade will be held at 12 noon beginning at Cumberland County Elementary School. Participants are needed for the parade, You may ride your bike, drive your car, your tractor, whatever you prefer!

“We need participants for this parade,” American Legion Post 119 Commander Wayne “Happy Trails” Spears said. “We are thanking our heroes who are still with us, especially our Vietnam Veterans. We also honor those who have passed.”

Spears reminds veterans this will be a great place for them to meet other veterans from around the state.

Also, breakfast will be available from our friends in the community at 7 a.m. and lunch until 2 p.m. in the Veterans Memorial Community Center.
