There’s a newly formed organization in Cumberland County, the Cumberland County Athletic Hall of Fame which was formed last fall in association with Cumberland County High School.
The purpose of this group is to recognize and honor the athletes, coaches, administrators and supporters who excelled in their respective sports or coaching/support roles and who helped to bring honor, recognition, distinction and excellence to Cumberland County.
This organization is governed by 11 board members who are former athletes and/or supporters of Cumberland County sports.
The group will be accepting nominations for possible inductees beginning October 1. Forms will be available at the Cumberland County News, Country Peddler, Citizens Bank of Cumberland County, Jones Restaurant, Housing Authority of Burkesville and Cumberland County High School. Eight nominees will be inducted into the Hall of Fame the first year.
The nominees should demonstrate integrity, character, citizenship, leadership, and community involvement during their high school career. All nominees selected to receive this honor will have a plaque in their honor displayed at the Cumberland County High School.
A candidate may be nominated for the Hall of Fame by any member of the community, including a Hall of Fame committee member. All applications are to remain confidential and only shared among the members of the committee.
A recognition banquet for the Hall of Fame inductees will be held on January 24, 2020. Tickets for the event will be sold for $15 each through January 22, 2020.
