Clinton County Board of Education held its regular business meeting Monday, October 21, with all board members present.

Following an opening moment of inspiration/prayer by Pastor Jim England, the board recognized several students who scored ‘distinguished’ in all testing categories in last year’s K-PREP testing.

Each school principal then gave a report on the most recent test scores at each of their schools, highlighting areas where students had improved, as well as areas that came up short and discussed what each school is doing to improve in areas that need improvement.

Principals that gave reports included AES Principal Tim Armstrong, CCMS Principal Angela Sloan, CCHS principal Stacey Evans and ECC Principal Shelton Harlan.

The board then heard the monthly superintendent’s report by Dr. Tim Parson which touched on several items, including recent district finance committee meetings and a safety “walk-through” of schools, among others.

The superintendent’s report was followed by a brief monthly financial report from Finance Director Mike Reeves.

The board then voted to purchase two new buses through the KISTA program at a total cost of $216,170, approved the annual staffing documents listing positions and wages of all employees in the district, both certified and classified, and voted to post an opening for establishing a certified teaching position at the Early Childhood Center.

The board then voted, following a discussion with Early Childhood Principal Harlan, to establish four eight hour per day classified instructional assistant positions at the ECC for the planned Daycare Center the school hopes to operate soon.

Principal Harlan noted that two classrooms could be filled and up to 60 pre-school aged children served with the daycare being operated at the school. He also noted two instructional positions were needed soon and two additional when the program is up and running.

Harlan is working with Ashley Beaty in coordinating efforts to establish the daycare center in the schools to help children at a pre-school age get an early start by being cared for in an educational environment.

More information on the planned daycare center that will be located in the ECC facility will be announced when details become available.

The board also approved submission of District Facility Plan changes made by the local committee to the Kentucky Department of Education, mostly pertaining to the energy savings program; approved shortened school days for five total students with disabilities, three at the ECC and one each at Albany Elementary and the middle school and approved an agreement with the Upward Bound program through Somerset Community College for the use of school buses.

Consent items, including approval of minutes, between meeting disbursements, payment of bills, an amendment to an SRO agreement and trips/schedules were approved by unanimous vote.

The next school board work session is scheduled for Thursday, November 14 and next regular business meeting for Monday, November 18, both at 5 p.m. at the Central Office.
