Although the Clinton County Gridiron Bulldogs have had a record setting year again, advancing for the first time ever in the state playoffs last Friday night, true sports fans are always looking ahead to the next season on the horizon.

In Clinton County, it’s basketball – aka “roundball” that is next in line at Clinton County High School, and when the calendar shows “December” in a couple of weeks, it will be non-stop action for the next four months.

Bulldog fans certainly have a big weekend in store coming up, with the Friday night football District Championship Game in Brownsville against Edmonson County, then on Saturday night, a trip to the Lindle Castle Gymnasium for the traditional annual kickoff to basketball season. . . Meet the Bulldogs.

This year’s pre-season basketball kickoff gathering will be structured much like it has been in past years, beginning on Saturday night with a chili supper in the Clinton County High School cafeteria.

Beginning at 5:30 and hosted by the Basketball Booster’s Club, the chili supper will be available for just $6 per person, and will continue until about 7:00 p.m., when the activities move into the gymnasium.

From there, cheerleaders and players will be introduced to the crowd, with each squad being featured in a lineup of cheers and then brief intra-squad scrimmages, giving fans an early look at the teams they will be supporting this season.

Fans will also be afforded introductions to the coaching staffs for the cheerleaders and basketball teams.

For the finale of the night, two new members will be inducted onto the C.C.H.S. Basketball Wall of Fame.

This year’s inductees represent two standout players who were cheered on the hardwood in seasons that were four decades apart.

Beginning with the Bulldog who will join the Wall of fame, Danny Robinson will be welcomed to the Wall of Fame, followed by Lady Bulldog standout Jessie Parrish Stone.

Danny Robinson

A standout player in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Danny Robinson was known as a rough inside player who wore the blue and white uniform for Clinton County High School, playing for then head coach the late Lindle Castle.

Playing for three different coaches, Jennifer Preston, Sam Gibson and finally Blake Button, she racked up a host of awards and records during her years in the blue and white uniform.

When she is inducted this Saturday night, Parrish is the program’s 11th all-time leading scorer in school history with 1,205 points, and is 4th in school history in three point field goals made.
