Property tax bills have been mailed

Clinton County Sheriff Rick Riddle would like to remind property owners that the 2011 tax bills have now been mailed to property owners in the county.

The bills, reflecting the tax rates of assessed property value for the current year, is payable in the sheriff’s office and discounts are available for those who pay early…but penalties are imposed for taxpayers who pay after the end of the calendar year.

Property owners who pay their county tax bills on or before November 30 will receive a two percent discount rate.

Taxpayers who pay any date during the month of December will pay the base rate listed on the tax bill.

Anyone paying their tax bills after December 31 but before January 31, 2012 will be added a two percent penalty and those who pay after January 31, 2012 will be assessed a 21 percent penalty, so officials suggest to save money and possibly an ultimate lien on property for non-payment of taxes to pay their tax bills early or on time.

Persons with questions about tax bills may contact the sheriff’s office or call 387-5011. Anyone with questions on their tax assessments should contact the Clinton County Property Valuation Administrator’s Office.
