Last council meeting of 2019 cancelled due to lack of quorum

What was to be the final regular meeting of Albany City Council for this calendar year did not take place due to lack of a quorum.

The council was scheduled to hold its regular meeting last Tuesday, December 3, at city hall.

Only three members, however, one shy of a quorum necessary, were able to attend, thus causing the meeting to have to be cancelled. It would have taken four of six (two-thirds) of the members to constitute a legal meeting.

Council members that were on hand included Reed Sloan, Tonya Thrasher and Rene York.

Council members that were unable to attend were Steve Lawson, who had to attend a funeral, Gene Ferrill, who had undergone a surgical procedure, and Tony Delk, who was out of town last Tuesday.

Also in attendance was legal council Norb Sohm and David Bowles of Monarch Engineers, who was apparently there to give council members updates on ongoing water related projects.

The agenda for the meeting, other than the Monarch updates, was light.

Albany Mayor Lyle Pierce, noting there were not enough members on hand for a quorum to conduct business, cancelled the meeting and no discussions of any type took place.

A date for an alternate special call meeting for the month was not set, meaning the council will apparently not hold a meeting this month. Their next regular meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 7 at 5 p.m. at city hall and is open to the general public.
