Holidays in the gym
“Christmas with Todd, New Year’s with Ansley”
That’s been the running joke among the Official Table crew through the holiday season as we worked through 10 games during the pre-Christmas Twin Lakes Holiday Classic boys’ tournament, then 16 games for the post-Christmas Best of the Lakes Holiday Classic girls’ tournament.
As I write this week’s column, with a continuing weird holiday altered schedule, Friday has become Tuesday for us at the Clinton County News, and Monday will be Wednesday.
Hopefully after a couple of days off to celebrate the New Year’s holiday, we can recoup, get past the holiday jet-lag issue, then get back to some form of normalcy.
In any event, the Twin Lakes Holiday Classic was another successful event for our athletic program, and just the fact that we had to work through three tie-breaking methods to determine which team had actually won the tournament is a testimony to the quality of teams that are featured each year.
When it was all wrapped up last week, Logan County, Louisville Eastern and Clinton County were deadlocked in a three-way tie. When the tie breaker rules were all sorted out, it was the Cougars of Logan that took home the championship trophy, with the runner-up trophy going to Eastern.
The girls’ Best of the Lakes Classic wrapped up Saturday night, too late for this issue, but like the boys’ tournament, our guest teams and their fans have had nothing but good things to say about both the hospitality of our school and its staff, as well as our entire community.
That’s always a good feeling when guests thank us for doing a good job and being a good host.
More importantly, the student athletes were showcased at a high level of competition.
Still, I’m ready for some normal game schedules, and those come next week, beginning with a trio of road trips to Cumberland County (January 3), Pickett County (January 4) and Russell County (January 7).
In the meantime-I’m in the gym until March,
and Happy New Year!
