The Clinton County Bulldogs pulled off an impressive first round win over Glasgow in the All “A” Classic 4th Region Tournament Monday night. With the victory, Head Coach Todd Messer recorded his 300th career victory and his 262nd win as head coach for the Bulldogs.

Clinton County started the game on the slow side as Glasgow drew first blood with a three pointer from the top of the key, followed by a field goal for a quick 5-0 lead.

Nick Brown stepped up and knocked down a three pointer from the right wing at the 4:20 mark to cut the lead to two points, but a field goal by the Scotties put Glasgow back up by four points, 7-3.

Evan Dearborn busted a three pointer at the 3:40 mark to cut the lead to one, followed by a field goal from Brown to take a one point lead with 3:21 remaining in the first quarter, 8-7.

Brown again nailed a three pointer to put the Dawgs up 11-7 and Caleb Guffey added to the lead with a field goal, 13-7, followed by a free throw from Chase Stines to lead by seven before Glasgow would score again.

The Scotties added a field goal before the quarter ended to cut the lead to five, 14-9.

As the second quarter began, Clinton County’s defense seemed to put a damper on Glasgow’s offense. Nick Delk added a basket, followed by a field goal by Bryson Cross for an 18-9 lead with 4:47 on the clock.

From that point on, Clinton County went cold from the floor allowing Glasgow to climb to within two points before halftime, 18-16.

Stines opened up the third quarter with a field goal to move up by four points, 20-16. Glasgow cut the lead to two then tied the score at 20 at the 5:17 mark.

Just before the quarter ended, on a fumble play, Brown picked up a loose ball and took a shot from the deep right corner as time expired to give the Dawgs an eight point advantage 30-22.

In the fourth quarter, Glasgow cut the lead to six points on two free throws, but Stines answered with two free throws of his own, 32-24.

Glasgow hit back-to-back field goals followed by a three point play to cut the lead to one point, 32-31 with 3:43 on the clock.

Stines then went to the foul line and dropped two to put the Dawgs back up three, 34-31.Glasgow went to the line to make one of two to get to within two points, 34-32.

Time went very slow during the final minutes of the game due to the amount of foul shots taken.

One thing that kept Clinton County in the game was Stines, who hit 15 of 15 foul shots in the second half, only missing three for the entire game and those coming in the first half. He went 16 of 19 for the game.

At the 2:18 a personal foul was call along with a technical foul on a Glasgow player. Delk hit one of two from the foul line to put the Dawgs up by five, 39-34. Stines hit both of the technical foul shots to extend the lead to 41-34 and Clinton County got the ball with 2:18 remaining.

Shortly after, Glasgow’s head coach received a technical foul where Stines knocked down both from the line. Glasgow did make two more free throws before the game was over to reach 36 points, but that was all they would score as Clinton County would score a total of 48 points for the game and pick up the 12 point win, 48-36.
