That’s why you don’t plan ahead

before the buzzer sounds

Fans of the All “A” Classic basketball tournament will be in Richmond this week pulling for their teams to make it to the Sunday afternoon championship games.

From our own 4th Region, they will be watching the Hornets of Metcalfe County and the Lady Scotties of Glasgow on the floor.

Congratulations to both squads that made their way through the three-game 4th Region brackets and cut down the nets over at Burkesville Friday night.

With that out of the way, that’s why we play the game. By all accounts, yes the teams that played the best basketball won the championship games Friday, but by most predictions, the best teams weren’t in the championship game.

Thursday night’s clash between the Bulldogs and the Hornets was a better game of two better teams than the Friday night matchup between the Hornets and Monroe Falcons.

A down to the wire grind match that all Clinton County fans were expecting to go our way – never came to be. The Hornets were the better team last Thursday night. Not to fault the Bulldogs or their effort, but the shots just wouldn’t fall for us – even in the paint on good looks the first, second or even the third time.

On this night, it was a 52-50 Hornet win. The next night, the Hornets picked up the championship title in much easier fashion with a 51-38 win over the Falcons.

By all accounts, or at least by all predictions earlier in the week, that should have been the Dawgs in that winner’s circle, but an off night, and a hard fighting opponent, and now the Bulldogs are having a slack stretch in the schedule while the Hornets are on their way to Richmond.

That’s why we play the game instead of just relying on the ratings and predictions.

So, going forward, and that’s what we will do, learn from this and go forward – we have the most important part of the season in front of us – believe it or not, the final stretch part is here now.

After Tuesday night’s double-header games against Russell County, our regular season games against 16th District opponents will be over and we can begin watching to see how the remaining match-ups between the other three schools go in order to determine, for both our girls and boys, how the post-season district tournament seedings will go.

Look at the calendar, fans. In less than a month, we will be playing the last regular season game against Barren, holding the Booster Club Auction and then heading over to Russell County for the 2020 16th District Tournament.

Get on board now before you miss out. These young ladies and men need our support.

In the meantime – I’m in the gym until March
