The Kentucky State Police is investigating an incident that resulted in the death of Blanton Howard, 75, and his wife, Stephanie Howard, 39, both of Burkesville.
Cumberland County dispatch contacted KSP Post 15 on Sunday, January 9 just after 8:30 a.m. and requested assistance at a residence on Scott River Drive in Burkesville, with a possible murder/suicide. The investigation revealed that Blanton Howard shot Stephanie Howard during a domestic altercation and then turned the weapon on himself and took his own life.
Autopsies were performed Monday, January 10 and preliminary results confirmed that both victims died as a result of gunshot wounds.
Detective B.J. Burton is continuing the investigation.

A Cumberland County man was killed in a three-vehicle accident Monday, January 10, in Barren County on Burkesville Road near the intersection of Old Sherfey Road. The accident occurred shortly after 1 p.m.
According to the Barren County Sheriff’s Department, Jeffrey T. Ashley, 43, of Marrowbone, was traveling west when he crossed the center line, striking a Freight liner hauling logs, driven by Clinton E. Birdwell, 33, of Red Boiling Springs, Tennessee. Ashley’s car then continued out of control, striking an eastbound vehicle driven by Randall A. Honeycutt, 33, of Albany, who was following the tractor-trailer.
Ashley was pronounced dead at the scene. Honeycutt and his four passengers, Shana L. Honeycutt, 33, Mattie L. Honeycutt, 8, and two-week-old twins, were all transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow where they were treated and released. Birdwell refused medical treatment. All were wearing seat belts except Ashley.
