The Clinton County Bulldogs improved its record to 17-6 on the year with a three point win over Allen-County Scottsville Friday night.
The Bulldogs made the journey to Allen County after being out of school almost the entire week due to district wide illness and at the beginning of the game, both teams seemed sluggish.
Chase Stines opened up the game with a field goal at the 6:16 mark for a 2-0 lead.
ACS tied the score and took the lead on a field goal and a three pointer, 5-2.
At the 2:33 mark, Stines again made a field goal to cut the lead to one, 5-4, then out of the blue, Blake Melton came off the bench and made back-to-back three pointers to put Clinton County up 10-5.
ACS finished the quarter with a field goal to cut the lead to two points, 10-8.
The second quarter went much the same way for both teams. The Bulldogs couldn’t seem to find its rthymn on offense and neither could ACS.
ACS opened up the second quarter with a field goal and a free throw to lead by one, 11-10.
Parker Tallent hit a field goal to take a one point lead, but ACS answered with a basket to regain the lead by one, 13-12.
Midway through the second quarter, Bryson Cross knocked down a three pointer, followed by a field goal by Nick Brown off a steal to put Clinton County up by four, 17-13.
ACS scored again to cut the lead to two, but a three pointer by Evan Dearborn put Clinton County up by five with 1:17 remaining in the half.
ACS finished the half with a field goal to cut the lead to three at halftime, 20-17.
The second half was much different than the first for both teams.
Midway through the third quarter, Nick Delk hit a three pointer to put the Dawgs up by seven, 34-27. ACS answered with a three pointer, 34-30, and Melton hit a field goal to put the Dawgs back up by six points, 36-30.
Stines went to the line at the 1:30 mark and hit one of two to give the Dawgs a seven point lead, 37-30, but ACS finished the quarter with a three pointer to cut the lead to four to start the fourth quarter, 37-33.
Delk added a field goal to start the quarter, but ACS quickly answered with a basket, 39-35.
Stines went to the line at the 6:46 mark and hit one of two for a five point lead, but then ACS hit a three pointer to cut the lead to two points, 40-38.
ACS eventually tied the score at 44 midway through the quarter, but that was short lived as Clinton County quickly regained the lead, 47-44.
Stines added to the lead with a free throw, 48-44, but with 2:36 remaining, ACS hit a field goal to cut the lead to two points, 48-46.
Clinton County then went up 50-46 and Brown added two more to the Bulldogs’ side of the scoreboard from the free throw line. ACS made a turnover on its next possession where Clinton County capatiolized and scored a field goal to put the Dawgs up by eight points, 54-46.
ACS answered with a three pointer, 54-49, while the Dawgs added one from the free throw line, 55-49.
The Patirots then hit another three pointer to cut the lead to three points, 55-52 with 28 seconds remaining.
Stines was quickly fouled and knocked down two from the line to extend the Dawgs’ lead to five points, 57-52.
ACS hit yet another three pointer to get to within two points, 57-55 with 14 seconds remaining. ACS then fouled Brown to stop the clock, but Brown made two of two to put Clinton County up 59-55 withn 10 seconds remaining.
ACS made one from the line on the next possession to cut the lead to three, and what would end up being the final score as ACS missed the final shot to tie the score at the final buzzer, 59-56.

Clinton County will be back in action this Friday as the Dawgs host Madison Southern at 7 p.m. and Saturday at home to host Breathitt County in the Robbie Davis Memorial Classic. The Dawgs will tip off at 7 p.m.
