Former Clinton County High School Lady Bulldog basketball standout and CCHS Basketball Wall of Fame member Amber Guffey has earned her first win as a head coach for a NCAA Division I women’s basketball team.

Guffey, who was also a stand-out player for the Murray State Racers, is now an assistant Coach for the Racers women’s basketball team, and was thrust into the role of head coach Saturday afternoon after Murray State head coach Rechelle Turner was ejected when she received her second technical foul.

The Racers went on to defeat Morehead in the OVC game, 83-75. The incident began when a Murray State player was given a technical foul after she acknowledged a teammate for a pass that resulted in her scoring a basket.

After head coach Turner left the floor following being ejected in the first half, Guffey stepped in and assumed the role of head coach.

During her post-game press conference, Guffey admitted that she had never thought about earning her first win in that manner, but she did give credit to her training from Coach Turner during her time as an assistant coach.

“That’s why we’re on Coach Turner’s staff,” Guffey said. “I think she believes in us, and we obviously have learned what she wants and what she doesn’t want. We don’t just go out there and do things she wouldn’t want done.”
