Lady Dawgs force running clock vs. Lynn Camp

The Clinton County Lady Bulldogs picked up a win this week against Lynn Camp on Saturday and they did so with a running clock in the third quarter. In order to obtain a running clock during a game, one team has to be ahead by 35 points. Clinton County did that on its way to picking up the win.

Clinton County also dropped two games, one against Taylor County at home and one against Monroe County on the road.

Clinton County traveled to Lynn Camp on Saturday with hopes of picking up a win before the regular season comes to a close.

The Lady Dawgs started out the game on fire, scoring 17 points in the first quarter alone and holding Lynn Camp to only four.

The second quarter saw much of the same from the Lady Dawgs as Clinton County again put up 17 points and held Lynn Camp to only five.

The Lady Bulldogs went into the locker room at the half with a 34-9 lead.

During the second half, Clinton County started raining three pointers as Abbi Young hit two and Tatum Harlan hit one to add to Clinton County’s 14 total points for the quarter.

By the time the third quarter was over, Clinton County had a commanding lead and earned a running clock with a 48-13 lead.

The fourth quarter went a little down hill for Clinton County has Lynn Camp started to score somewhat.

The Lady Dawgs only scored three points in the entire eight minutes while Lynn Camp posted 17.

A combination of Clinton County’s defense and offense in the first three quarters seemed to be enough to grab the win, its fourth of the season, by a final score of 51-33.

The Lady Dawgs traveled to Monroe County on Friday to take on the Lady Falcons.

Both teams struggled from the floor during the opening minutes of the game.

Landree Moons scored the first basket at the 4:30 mark to lead, 2-0.

Monroe County answered with a three pointer for a one point lead, but a three pointer by Young put the Lady Dawgs up by two, 5-3, with 2:20 on the clock.

Monroe County scored again on the next possession to tie the score at five, and 10 seconds later Braylee Mann added two points from a field goal to take a two point lead, 7-5.

To end the quarter, Monroe County tied the score at seven on a field goal at the 1:20 mark.

Monroe County jumped out early in the second quarter and put together a 6-0 run to lead, 13-7.

Mann hit a field goal at the 5:40 mark to cut the lead to four points, but a field goal by Monroe County put the Lady Falcons up by six, 15-9.

Clinton County then put together a run of its own and tied the score at 15. Monroe County took the lead at the 1:30 mark, 17-15, but a quick answer from Young from behind the three point line gave the Lady Dawgs a one point halftime lead, 18-17.

During the third quarter, Monroe County opened quickly with 7-0 run for a 25-18 lead.

Clinton County came back and got to within three points, 25-22, but two more baskets by Monroe County put the Lady Falcons up 29-22.

Clinton County’s Moons added a free throw to make it 29-23 just before Head Coach Ansley Nelson was called for a technical foul.

By the time the quarter had ended, Clinton County found itself down by seven, 35-28.

The fourth quarter didn’t go nearly as well for the Lady Dawgs as Monroe County picked up the pace and Clinton County’s shots just didn’t fall as they did in the previous quarters.

Monroe County ended up scoring 14 points during the final period, compared to Clinton County’s 10, for a 49-38 victory over the Lady Dawgs.

The Clinton County Lady Dawgs started out Tuesday night’s game very strong defensively by blocking two shots right out of the gate.

Mann scored the first goal for Clinton County at the 5:59 mark then Clinton County went on a cold streak that lasted until the 1:12 mark when Moons hit a three pointer.

During that cold streak, Taylor County put up 11 points and finished the quarter with a 12-5 lead over the Lady Dawgs.

During the first two minutes of the second quarter, Taylor County put together a 10-6 run to lead 22-11. From that point on, Clinton County started to fight back and cut the lead to four points, 22-18.

Taylor County added a little seperation with a basket, 26-20, but Young cut the lead back to four on a field goal at the 1:49 mark, 26-22.

Taylor County added a point with a free throw, but a basket by Makenzie Cope cut the lead to three points, 27-24.

Aysha Sutton would hit two free throws to finish out the quarter and head in to the lockroom down by only four points, 30-26.

The third quarter was a whole different story as Clinton County started to cool off on offense.

Taylor County added 12 points to the board during the quarter and held Clinton County to only six points to lead 42-31 after three.

The fourth quarter didn’t fare well at all for the Lady Dawgs as Taylor County posted 21 points in the quarter compared to the Lady Dawgs’ 13.

By the time the game was over, Clinton County had lost, 63-44.

Clinton County’s final game of the regular season will come Thursday night against Barren County, with Senior Night festivities held at The Castle with tip off set for 6 p.m.
