Adair Progress

A 17-year-old who was a senior at Adair County High School was killed in a two-vehicle collision on KY 206 (Liberty Road) early Wednesday morning, October 26.

Latasha Bryant, who also went by LaShay and Shay Bryant, was pronounced dead at Westlake Regional Hospital at 8:03 a.m. by Adair County Deputy Coroner Tony Bragg as a result of injuries sustained in the accident.

According to the report from Kentucky State Police Post 15 in Columbia, the accident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, 2.3 miles east of Columbia on KY 206 near the intersection of T.P. Cundiff Road.

Bryant was operating a 2000 Hyundai Daewoo and was traveling west on KY 206 when she lost control of her vehicle in a curve, over corrected and entered the eastbound lane, where her vehicle was struck by a eastbound 2010 Chevy Express van operated by 56-year-old Charles Rone of Brooks, Kentucky.

Rone was airlifted from the scene and flown to a Louisville hospital. According to sources, Rone was a driver for WIT Transmission Parts of Louisville and was en route to deliver parts to Cook’s Transmission at the time of the accident.

Bryant was transported to Westlake Regional Hospital by the Adair County EMS where she was pronounced dead. Her body was taken to the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville for an autopsy.

Both operators were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. The accident is being investigated by Trooper Dewayne Holder, who was assisted at the scene by the Adair County Sheriff’s Department and Adair Search and Rescue.
