Transition time for CCHS athletics

It’s “tween” time for athletics at Clinton County High School, with football regular season at an end and the playoffs getting underway this weekend, and basketball practice in full swing as the teams ready themselves for the upcoming 2011-12 campaign.

First to football, and the upcoming KHSAA Gridiron Bowl. The Bulldogs will travel north this Friday night for the first round game in the 2A playoffs, taking on Christian Academy Louisville, at CAL, in a game that has a 7:00 p.m. (local/central time) kickoff.

Clinton County will be going into the playoff game coming off of a disappointing 0-10 regular season while the CAL Centurions will be taking a 6-4 mark into the first round playoff game.

As for driving directions, I’ve been there for a basketball game several years ago, and I remember it being on the east side of Louisville, near the Gene Snyder Parkway (I-265) and not at all hard to find.

Roundball on the horizon

On to the next sport on our plates, basketball, and you’ll find the activity level at a fast pace even though the season isn’t yet underway.

Practice for both the Lady Dawgs and Dawgs are at full steam and although the start of the 2011-12 seasons are about a month away, things will be happening in just a couple of weeks.

We are working already on the upcoming Big Blue Preview special pre-season basketball section. The public will get its first look at the squads just next week with the Friday, November staging of Meet the Bulldogs.

More details on the Meet the Bulldogs, as well as the incoming members for the CCHS Basketball Wall of Fame that will be inducted that night will be in next week’s Clinton County News.

Then, before we know it, we’ll be headed to the Lindle Castle Gymnasium for the first games of the season. Just for a heads up – both varsity squads will be getting things underway at home this year, the Lady Bulldogs playing host to Franklin-Simpson on Monday, November 28, while the Bulldogs will play host to North Laurel County the following night, Tuesday, November 29.

Road trips to Rupp

One of the highlights on this year’s roundball schedule for fans will include games for both the Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs on the most famous basketball floor in Kentucky – Rupp Arena.

Both squads will be participating in the Bleid Sports Kentucky Showcase. The Lady Bulldogs will be facing Mercer County on Sunday, December 11, in a game with an 11:00 a.m. local time tip off.

The Bulldogs will play at Rupp against Bryan Station on Sunday, January 8 with the game tip-off time to be announced.

Clinton County High School Athletic Director Mike Beard made a special effort to contact us this week to explain that while some fans might do a double take at playing games on Sunday, athletic department officials have made special efforts to insure that opportunities are made available for the players and coaches to attend worship services.

“The boys will be attending an early worship service at Immanual Baptist Church in Lexington the day we play, and the girls are having a local pastor to lead a devotion at the high school before they depart on their game day,” Beard explained in an email to the Clinton County News Tuesday morning.

Tickets for both games are currently available at Clinton County High School for $10. Admission at the Rupp Arena door will be $12.
