More than $2,400 was raised Friday night as the Relay for Life hosted a Cyclathon at the Albany Wellness Center.
The top money fundraising team consisted of Dipesh Soma, Jennifer Riddle, Caleb Cummings and Adam Davidson, raising $1,331.00.
This was a first annual event for the Relay for Life and with all the success it had on its first go-a-round, this event is likely to continue on for years to come.
“We were so proud of the first event and had a great time. Some cyclers cycled for three hours. We really just had a great time,” Renee Parrigin, Relay for Life Chairperson, said. “The American Cancer Society wants to thank the Wellness Center for allowing us to use their facility to put on this event.”
The event started around 5 p.m. Friday, November 4, and lasted until around 11 p.m.
Several people in the community participated in the event as individuals or many put together teams.
Those participants include:
Shannon Owens, Cindy Brown, Amy Beaudion, Shelby Brown, Phyllis Amonnett, Samantha Bowlin, Kailyn Jones, Brandi Cooksey, Jackie Dennis, Allen Duvall, Tammy Coe, Cierra Thompson, Rita Powell, Gloria Ferguson, Renee Parrigin, Johnny Derossett, Donna Derossett, Gail Ferguson, Dipesh Soma, Jennifer Riddle, Caleb Cummings, and Adam Davidson.
Other Relay for Life teams helped with the event, including the Albany Elementary School team, the Early Childhood Center team, Somerset Community College team and the Equity Group team.
The Relay for Life also cooked food for the riders as well as any spectators of the event. Food and cooking items were donated by Equity Group, Cowboy Charcoal, Save-A-Lot and Pepsi.
