The Clinton County Recreation Park Board’s Executive Committee met last Thursday night, June 25, with five members present. Since the park is still basically closed due to health department guidelines due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the agenda was limited.
For the first time since late winter, the meeting was held in person, with members meeting on the park bleachers.
The committee did discuss and make the decision to proceed with hosting vendors at the park during the upcoming U.S. 127 Yard Sale slated as usual for the first full weekend of August.
As of this point, the 127 Corridor Sale is still set to take place through several states stretching from Michigan to the north to Alabama to the south.
The local park board will continue to rely on guidance from the local health departments and follow all COVID-19 safety regulations in place.
However, it was noted that the situation could change depending on the pandemic situation in the coming weeks and whether or not the state will allow the sales, which bring in travelers from all across the country to Kentucky for the annual outdoor sale.
Although as park activities remain closed at the playground area, for shelter rentals and other large gatherings, and sporting events, the walking track does remain open for use.
It was also announced that the restrooms at the park are now reopened and at least one major improvement has been made since last month. The safety netting to stop foul balls from fields to bleachers where spectators sit, for safety reasons, are now in place.
Youth League members have been working in conjunction with the park board to get this project completed and it is yet another asset for both youth league sports and the park itself.
It is hoped that with additional openings to the public, some type of fall sports and others may be able to be held in the future.
Also, anyone interested in renting a vendor space at the park for the 127 Corridor Sale should contact Park Director Tim Moons or Maintenance Director Michael Hood.
Readers are reminded that the annual Albany/Clinton County Chamber of Commerce 4th of July Fireworks Show will once again be held at the park this coming Saturday around 9 p.m.
Visitors to the park are asked to wear masks (not mandatory) and adhere to the six-foot distancing recommendation unless with direct family members.
The next regular meeting of the Clinton County Rec/Park Board is scheduled for July 30 at 6 p.m. at the park.
The installation of new safety netting at the Mountain View Recreation Park ball diamonds, will greatly enhance the safety of spectators during ball games. The increased height of the new netting will prevent foul balls, in most cases, from leaving the playing area and falling into the nearby stands.
