Clinton County’s hopes of moving on in the All “A” Classic tournament were smashed Monday night as the Lady Dawgs went up against Russellville in the first round of regional competition.
The Lady Dawgs led the Lady Panthers toward the end of the first quarter, but couldn’t handle the full court pressure and lost the game by a final of, 72-47.

In the first round action of the All “A” Classic Regional Tournament held at Russellville Monday night, the Clinton County Lady Bulldogs fell early and never were able to recover from the much stronger Lady Panthers’ team.
It was all Russellville taking a quick 8-2 lead.
Clinton County fired back and put together a 10-2 run to lead the game, 12-10.
With 2:18 on the clock in the first quarter, Russellville put together a 4-0 run to finish the quarter and lead by one point, 15-14.
That 4-0 run continued on into the second quarter, picking up four more points for the Lady Panthers for a 19-14 lead.
Russellville came with the full court pressure and caused problems with the Lady Dawgs being able to move the ball down the floor.
Russellville extended its lead on a 22-2 run for a 33-16 lead with more than three minutes remaining in the half.
Stevi Morgan scored a three point play, followed by a basket from Alex Beard and another basket by Morgan to cut the lead to 10 points, 33-23.
In the final two minutes of the half, Russellville put together a 10-0 run for a 20 point lead at halftime, 43-23.
Despite everything Clinton County could do, the Lady Bulldogs couldn’t get to within reaching distance of the Lady Panthers.
As the game came to a close, Clinton County was able to use the entire bench of Lady Dawgs, but Russellville moved on to the second round game against Glasgow as they defeated the Lady Dawgs, 72-47.

The Clinton County Lady Bulldogs played the Lady Lakers of Russell County Friday night in a game that ended with the Lady Dawgs on the losing end, 51-38.
In the two teams’ previous matchup at Russell County, the Lady Lakers completely thrashed the Lady Dawgs, 61-31, but the second matchup was a little different story and a much closer game than the final score indicated.

The Lady Dawgs came out on a somewhat of a strong note during Friday night’s game against the Lady Lakers.
Russell County made the first basket of the game, but Stevi Morgan quickly got onto the board with a basket for the games first tie, 2-2.
Both teams continued to battle throughout the first quarter, as Russell County grabbed a 5-2 lead when a three pointer found the bottom of the net.
Shyanne McWhorter cut the lead to one on a field goal, but Russell County answered with a basket for a 7-4 lead.
Thurman added to the Lady Dawgs’ score by knocking down a basket, 7-6, but Russell County continued to find the open lanes and scored again for a 9-6 lead.
Morgan then took matters into her own hands as she knocked down a field goal followed by hitting two shots from the foul line to give the Lady Dawgs a one point lead, 10-9.
Both teams were slowing the ball down and running the offense.
Clinton County reached a three point lead when Keistan Dalton hit two shots from the foul line, 12-9.
Russell County hit a three pointer to tie the score, but a basket by Tara Elmore gave the Lady Dawgs a two point advantage with 1:09 on the clock.
Russell County was sent to the line for two foul shots, but only made one to cut the Lady Bulldogs’ lead to one point, 14-13 to end the quarter.
At the start of the second quarter, Russell County regained the lead on a field goal. Alex Beard made her presence known with a three pointer to take a two point lead with 7:24 on the clock, 17-15.
The Lady Dawgs were then deflated when Russell County put together a 10-0 run, 25-17.
Russell County sent Ansley Stalcup and Morgan to the foul line in the final seconds of the half where Stalcup hit two and Morgan hit one for a 25-20 halftime score.
As the second half got underway, Morgan cut the lead to three points on a field goal, but Russell County answered with a field goal of its own, 27-22.
Dalton hit a shot with 4:40 on the clock to cut the lead back to three points, but Russell County continued to answer anything the Lady Dawgs threw its way.
After Russell County extended its lead to five, Morgan hit a basket at the 3:40 mark to cut the lead back to three points, 29-26.
Russell County then took control and started moving the ball quicker down the floor.
The Lady Lakers finished the quarter with a 10 point lead, 36-26.
At the beginning of the final quarter, Russell County jumped out to a 15 point lead before Clinton County would score.
With the score 41-26, Morgan hit a basket with 6:09 on the clock to cut the lead to 13.
Breonia Thurman made a three point play to cut the lead to 10 points, but Russell County hit one free throw and a basket to extend the lead back to 13 points, 44-31.
McWhorter cut the lead to 11 on a field goal, but Russell County hit four free throws to move up by 15 points with 1:21 remaining in the game.
Clinton County never gave up until the final buzzer sounded. Morgan added two points to the scoreboard on a field goal with 1:10 on the clock. Russell County then added another basket for a 50-35 lead.
Clinton County’s final points of the game came from Morgan when she hit a three pointer from the corner with 49 seconds on the clock.
Russell County hit a free throw in the final seconds to reach a 13 point win over the Lady Dawgs, 51-38.
