A Clinton County man has died as the result of injuries he received after falling from a moving vehicle Sunday, according to Clinton County Sheriff Jeff Vincent.

Jordan Melton, 20, was found to have received a severe head injury and was transported to the Med Center at Albany by Clinton County EMS, and later transported to the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, where he died Monday, September 14.

According to a press release issued to the Clinton County News Tuesday morning, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department and the Clinton County EMS were dispatched to the scene of an accident at approximately 4:00 a.m. Sunday, September 13.

When they arrived at the scene on south U.S. 127, it was determined that a group of people had stopped at a parking lot across from Talbott Lumber Company to talk to another individual.

When leaving, all of the occupants apparently did not get into the vehicle and Melton was on the running board and fell when the vehicle was in motion, striking the pavement and receiving a severe head injury.

Sheriff Vincent noted that the vehicle was a 2001 Dodge Durango operated by Nathaniel Shelton. Neither Shelton, nor passengers in the vehicle, Jacob Stearns, Jeremy Glidewell and Jordan Neal, all of Albany, were injured in the accident.

The accident remains under investigation by Clinton County Sheriff Jeff Vincent.
