COVID-19 continues to play havoc with local sports
It just never gets easy in the COVID-19 world of local sports.
Clinton County High School is hosting the District Volleyball Tournament this week, with four teams coming together in The Castle from four counties that are currently in the “red-critical” range of community spread rates for the virus.
In fact, according to the info sheet District Athletic Director Brandon Pharis sent out on Monday of this week, pretty much the entire 4th Region, with the exceptions of Allen and Simpson counties, are in the red zone, and Allen could easily move back into the range by the time you read this.
Following a set of stringent guidelines that were set forth by the KHSAA, the volleyball district tournament went off with Monday night’s semi-final round being played in front of a fan base that was made up of player family members and officials only.
Despite the stringent regulations, the schools plunged ahead to get the district tournament in, in hopes of being able to play next week’s Regional Tournament.
The regional volleyball tourney will be hosted by neighboring Russell County, Monday through Thursday.
Congratulations are certainly in order to our Lady Dawgs as they earned the win in Monday night’s opening round against the Lady Panthers of Cumberland County, advancing not only to Tuesday night’s championship round, but to next week’s regional tournament as well.
Congrats Lady Volley Dawgs!
Gridiron plans are a go for Friday
Clinton County is set to head to Edmonson County for a matchup against the Wildcats this Friday night – providing COVID-19 doesn’t interfere with that before game time.
Although Clinton County remains in the red zone as of this writing Tuesday morning, and will likely remain at that level for some time, Edmonson County was under the red zone level at presstime.
If we do hit the field Friday night, expect cool temperatures at game time, probably in the mid to low 60s. A chance of rain at some point during the game is also likely, so dress accordingly.
