Sgt. Justin Riddle of Albany, pictured above left, was recently honored for his efforts with his U.S. Army unit 194th while being stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany. During a recent watch in early October, Riddle and another base soldier, Sgt. Barnett, were credited with physically stopping a Private First Class from committing suicide.

The private ran to the top floor of a base parking garage and attempted to climb the rails. Barnett followed the private and also called the Military Police, as he tried to prevent the private from climbing further over the railing.

Sgt. Riddle was dispatched to the incident and was immediately able to assist Barnett by pulling the private back over the railing safely. Riddle then provided first aid to the private, who had suffered minor scrapes and injuries.

Riddle, who is a 2011 graduate of Pickett County High School in Byrdstown, Tennessee, has been serving in the U.S Army since 2016. He is the son of Ricky and Pam Riddle of Albany. His parents, as well as his sisters, Ashley Cooksey and Lyndsey Riddle, are proud of his efforts and the honor of being named “Hero of the Week.”
