Dawgs hope to get back on the winning track Friday
This past Friday night’s football game in Edmonton wasn’t what Clinton County had hoped for, with the Dawgs returning home after suffering a 63-0 thumping at the hands of the Metcalfe County Hornets.
Still, we got the game completed in what has been a COVID-19 fiasco year of cancellations and postponements.
Up next, hopefully, will see Clinton County playing host to the Dragons of Green County on Bulldog Field this Friday night, with a slated 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
There will be some form of Homecoming festivities prior to the game, and at the time of this writing, a goal for that ceremony is to hold it at 4:30 p.m.
If Friday night’s game does get played as scheduled, we’re going to be facing a Dragon squad coached by former Bulldog Coach Jeremy Whitlow.
Green County will come to Bulldog Field with a 1-6 record.
Friday night’s game will be a make-up of the contest with Green County that was previously slated to have been played October 2, but was postponed due to COVID-19.
If the game gets played, it will mean that Green County was able to get in an entire eight game schedule.
Clinton County will be hitting the field with a 1-2 overall record, having had five games canceled (four if this Green County game is made-up).
Still, the Dawgs have a chance to make the playoffs. According to District Athletic Director Brandon Pharis, the playoff selections will depend on a mixture of game results and the RPI.
A win for Clinton County Friday night will ensure the Dawgs a spot in the playoffs.
That said, and, of course, as always – Go Dawgs!
Winter sports are on the way – in some form or fashion
Winter sports on the high school level officially began this week with practice, and we’re in the same mode as we have been throughout this 2020 year of COVID – wait and see.
Next week I’ll lay out some of the details Pharis has given me as to how basketball might look for the players, support staff and especially for the fans.
Brace up – it ain’t that pretty.
