Clinton County pulled off a very necessary win Friday night over the Green County Dragons, 44-14.

“More than anything we got to play two weeks in a row which is the first time for that this year,” Head Coach Rocky Tallent said.

Friday night’s win secures a spot in the playoffs for a chance at winning the district title.

Last year, Clinton County fell to Edmonson County in the district championship, but this year the Dawgs are looking forward to that rematch.

“We will go in as the four seed,” Tallent said. “They are the one seed. They went 3-0 in the district. We’ve not seen them this year because we had to cancel due to COVID on their behalf. They have a lot of seniors and a lot of experience.”

Tallent said Friday night’s game was a testament to what his team has had all year long, but with the inconsistency of the season it’s been hard to display that.

“It just came out. We’ve had that in the tank all season,” Tallent said. “Our line gave us more time. That was definitely a bright spot Friday night.”

Chase Stines went 12 for 19 for 294 yards with four touchdowns and one interception. He also had 16 carries for 83 yards and two touchdowns and a two-point conversion. Stines also was a part of 17 tackles for the game.

Adam Herald led the team in receiving with 127 yards and a touchdown, Bryson Cross had 113 yards receiving with two touchdowns, Blake Melton had 57 yards with a touchdown and Malichi Upchurch had 10 carries for 57 yards.

On defense, Cole Nuetzman recorded two sacks and Landon Brown had one with Cross picking up an interception.

“It was by far our best running performance of the year,” Tallent said. “We are going to go into Friday night and give them a game. We will make it to the fourth quarter and see what happens.”

Clinton County will travel to Edmonson County Friday, November 20, with kick off beginning around 7 p.m.

Clinton County’s quarterback Chase Stines took the ball on his own during the first quarter of Friday night’s game against Green County. The Bulldogs picked up the much needed win, 44-14, to secure a spot in the post season. The Bulldogs will travel to Edmonson County Friday night, November 20, for the first round game of the district tournament.
