Dawgs add All ‘A’ hardware to the

collection

Our Bulldogs earned another addition to the Clinton County High School trophy case last week with the championship round win in the All ‘A’ Classic 4th Regional tournament.

Friday night’s game against the Hornets of Metcalfe County was everything you could want in a high school basketball game – with the possible exception of popcorn, which wasn’t available inside the Hornet Hive.

Lead exchanges, never lopsided scores, good officiating and a three-point shootout, ending with the Bulldogs claiming a three point win for the championship title.

Clinton County dropped nine baskets from three point range on 18 attempts while Metcalfe County hit eight from beyond the arc on 21 attempts.

That one additional three point basket for the Dawgs equaled that win margin in the 62-59 victory.

This one seemed to be especially sweet for Bulldog head coach Todd Messer, making it three championships and state tournament trips in the past four years and following what he often says was a huge disappointing loss last year in the championship round (52-50 / Metcalfe County).

So, what’s next for the Dawgs in the All ‘A’ Classic? Like everything else in the COVID infested year and season, there’s a little bit of wait and see ahead. The state tournament is slated to be played in Richmond’s Eastern Kentucky University McBrayer Arena February 16 – 21.

The state bracket match-ups are still not complete with several regional tournaments not yet decided, but we do know who the Dawgs will be facing, we just don’t know exactly when.

Clinton County will face 6th Region champion Evangel Christian (Eagles), but due to the current uncertainness of everything these days, the game day and times are still not set.

Congrats Dawgs and crew on another 4th Region title and pending trip to the state round next month.

Now, it’s the girls’ turn for All ‘A’ action

Due to a COVID-19 positive test within our Lady Dawgs, their quest for an All ‘A’ title was halted last week, and will hopefully resume this week.

Clinton County’s Lady Dawgs, after an opening round win over Cumberland County, will play Monroe County this Thursday night in the semi-final round, on The Castle floor with a 7:00 p.m. “flip” starting time.

The goal is to travel to Edmonton for a game against the Lady Hornets of Metcalfe in the championship game on Saturday night, again with a 7:00 p.m. “flip.”

COVID-19 game changes

The current pandemic situation is bringing about schedule updates constantly, to the point it’s almost hard to keep up.

District Athletic Director Brandon Pharis is doing a good job of keeping everyone informed of the changes being forced all around.

This week, the Lady Dawgs remained sidelined when Campbellsville came to town Monday night, making that matchup a boys’ junior varsity, boys’ varsity lineup instead of the scheduled double-header varsity games.

Of course, Thursday night’s All ‘A’ semi-final round was brought about due to the COVID-19 quarantine situation of our Lady Bulldogs, as was the move of the girls’ All ‘A’ championship game from last Friday night to this coming Saturday night.

A previously scheduled game between our Lady Dawgs and Warren Central this Saturday night has been canceled, due to Central having to use the date to makeup a district game missed earlier on their schedule.

We’ll get through this – I think.

In the meantime – mask up,

so our seniors can get a season in!
