Dawgs drop first game of the year, win against Jackson

The Clinton County Bulldogs finished the week with a 1-1 record, picking up its first loss of the season to Allen County/Scottsville on Friday, January 22, 61-59. On Saturday, Clinton County hosted Jackson County and picked up a 69-54 win.

Clinton County drew first blood against Jackson County on Saturday with a basket by Nick Brown at the 6:21 mark.

Jackson County answered with a field goal to tie the score at two, but a free throw by Chase Stines put the Dawgs up by one, 3-2.

Jackson County took the lead on a field goal, but Nick Delk added back-to-back field goals to put the Dawgs up by three, 7-4.

The Generals then added a field goal at the 2:31 mark, but Delk answered again with a field goal for a three point lead.

Jackson County put a three pointer to tie the game at nine at the 1:22 mark, but a three pointer by Steele Burchett gave the Dawgs a three point lead, 12-9.

Clinton County finished the quarter with a 4-3 run to lead at the end of one, 16-12.

Jackson County opened up in the second quarter and cut the lead to two with a field goal at the 6:45 mark.

Clinton County’s offense struggled somewhat, but a basket by Brown put the Dawgs up by four, 18-14.

Jackson County tied the score at 18 at the 6:10 mark. Three minutes later, Head Coach Todd Messer was called for a technical foul, sending Jackson County to the line.

After two missed free throws, Clinton County regained the lead with a field goal, 20-18. Jackson County tied the score at 20 with two free throws and took the lead on a following field goal, 22-20.

Clinton County’s Blake Melton hit a three pointer to take a one point lead, 23-22.

Jackson County regained the lead on two free throws, 24-23, but Stines hit a field goal for a 25-24 lead.

At the 2:44, Jackson County hit two more free throws to take a one point lead, but a basket by Stines and two free throws by Bryson Cross put the Dawgs up by three, 29-26.

Jackson County added a free throw to cut the lead to two points, but a field goal by Delk put the Dawgs up by four, 31-27.

Jackson County hit one free throw at the end of the quarter, but Delk made two following to give the Dawgs a 33-28 halftime lead.

The third quarter went much the same for both teams as Clinton County couldn’t find a scoring spurt to finally put the Generals away.

Both teams went back and forth during the eight minutes of play and ended up with Clinton County hanging on to a five point lead, 46-41.

The fourth quarter continued to be a basket swap for both teams.

With the Dawgs up 53-46, Clinton County then put together a 9-0 run to lead 62-46 with 3:35 on the clock.

Jackson County hit a three pointer and a field goal to cut the lead to 11 points, 62-51, but two free throws by Stines, a field goal by Melton and Delk combined gave the Dawgs a 68-51 lead.

Clinton County finished the game with a free throw and a final score of 69-54.

Allen Co./Scottsville 61

The Dawgs picked up its first loss of the season Thursday night of last week at the hands of Allen County/Scottsville, 61-59.

Allen County opened with a field goal for a quick 2-0 lead, but a basket by Delk tied the score at 2-2, at the 6:25 mark in the first quarter.

Allen County put up four points, one field goal and two free throws, for a 6-2 lead, but Delk hit three field goals in a row to put the Dawgs on top by two points, 8-6.

Allen County finished the quarter with a 7-0 run to lead, 13-8 at the end of one.

The Dawgs cut the lead to three points in the opening minute of the second quarter with a basket by Delk, 13-10, but Allen County answered with a three pointer for a six point lead, 16-10, at the 7:15 mark.

Melton dropped in a field goal to cut the lead to four points, but Allen County hit back-to-back field goals for a 21-12 lead.

At the 4:59 mark, Clinton County started a 10-0 run to take a one point lead, 22-21.

Allen County stopped the bleeding with a field goal to regain the lead, 23-22, and added a three pointer for a 26-22 advantage.

To finish the quarter, Clinton County put together a 7-0 run, to take a three point halftime lead, 29-26.

Allen County opened up the second half with a 9-0 run to give the Patriots a 35-29 lead at the 4:59 mark.

Delk added to Clinton County’s side with a field goal, but Allen County added three more baskets for a 10 point lead, 41-31.

By the end of the third quarter, Allen County maintained control of the game with a 48-39 lead.

As the fourth quarter rolled around, Clinton County came out swinging. During the first five minutes of the quarter Clinton County put together an 11-4 run to tie the score at 54 with 2:23 on the clock.

Cross dropped in a three pointer after Allen County took the lead on a field goal, 57-56.

Allen County answered with a three pointer for a two point edge, 59-57. Stines tied the score at 59 with a field goal at the 1:10 mark.

Allen County then used the clock to its advantage running it down from 1:10 to 14 seconds when the Patriots hit a field goal to take the final lead of the game, 61-59.

Clinton County missed two attempts as the clock ran down to tie the score, seeing its first loss of the season, 61-59.

Clinton County will be back in action on Thursday as the Dawgs host Metcalfe County in the second of a girls’/boys’ double header.

The Dawgs will also play host to Madison Southern on Saturday in the Robbie Davis Classic at 4 p.m. and will also host Pickett County in the second game of a girls’/boys’ double header on Sunday.

Adam Hay went up for a shot during Clinton County’s game against Allen County/Scottsville last week. Clinton County lost the game by a final score of 61-59. The Dawgs moved to 8-1 on the year after the win against Jackson County on Saturday.

Chase Stines put up a shot in the lane during the first half against Allen County/Scottsville on Friday night. Clinton County dropped its first game of the season with the 61-59 loss and move to 8-1 on the year. Stines finished the game with 12 points.
