Lady Dawgs host four games last week, come out 2-2

The Clinton County Lady Bulldogs had a busy week on the local hardwood, with four games played since Tuesday night.

On Tuesday night of last week, the Lady Dawgs took on Logan County, picking up a 57-54 win. On Thursday, Clinton County hosted Metcalfe County and was handed a 57-46 loss. Saturday saw the Lady Dawgs take on Pineville in the Robbie Davis Memorial Classic. Clinton County was able to pull out the 43-37 win.

On Sunday, Pickett County came into town and, what was a back and forth game for three quarters, saw Pickett County pull away later in the game for the 63-42 win against the Lady Dawgs.

The Lady Dawgs hosted Pickett County on what is considered a unconventional day of the week, with the game being held on a Sunday, but the Lady Dawgs held its own throughout most of the game.

Pickett County started off quickly with a free throw, but Landree Moons added a field goal to take Clinton County’s first lead of the game, 2-1.

Pickett County came back and scored back-to-back field goals and a free throw to take a 6-2 lead with 2:08 on the clock.

Moons scored again with less than a minute remaining in the period to cut the lead to two points, but Pickett County finished the quarter with a field goal of its own to lead 8-4 at the end of the first.

Clinton County spent most of the second quarter finding good shots, but nothing would fall for the Lady Dawgs.

Pickett County reached a 14-7 lead at the 6:04 mark and nearly two minutes later Tatum Harlan scored a field goal to cut the lead to five points, 14-9.

Pickett County added a basket to push the lead to seven points, but the Lady Dawgs’ shots started to fall as Clinton County put together a 7-0 run to tie the score at 16 with 2:30 on the clock.

Clinton County finished the quarter with only one field goal as Pickett County added five points to its side for a 21-18 halftime score.

At the start of the third quarter, Pickett County added a free throw and a field goal for a 24-18 lead.

The Lady Dawgs then put together a 9-2 run to take a one point lead at the 4:23 mark, 27-26.

Pickett County then put together a run of its own, 8-3, to regain the lead 34-30.

With less than a minute remaining in the third quarter, Clinton County’s confidence quickly dropped as Pickett County led at the end of three, 40-30.

The Lady Dawgs couldn’t recover in the fourth quarter as Pickett County put up 23 points in the period.

Clinton County managed to put up only 12. By the time the final buzzer sounded, Pickett County had come out with the 63-42 win, pushing Clinton County’s record to 5-5 on the year.

Pineville 37

Clinton County hosted Pineville in the Robbie Davis Memorial Classic on Saturday and managed to pull off a win.

Clinton County’s Moons started the game for Clinton County with a field goal for a quick 2-0 lead.

Pineville took the lead on a free throw and a field goal made at the 4:15 mark in the first quarter, 3-2.

Clinton County recovered and went on a 5-0 run to lead, 7-3.

Pineville put together a run of its own to finish the quarter with one point lead, 10-9.

Pineville opened the second quarter with a three pointer to extend its lead to four, 13-9.

Moons hit a field goal to get to within two points, but Pineville added a basket to push the lead back to four points, 15-11.

Makenzie Cope hit a basket to once again cut the lead to two points, 15-13, but back-to-back field goals by Pineville put the Lady Lions up by six points, 19-13, with 4:40 on the clock.

Both teams matched each other point for point for the remainder of the period and Clinton County went into the locker room at the half down by six, 25-19.

The Lady Dawgs came out in the third quarter on a mission, putting together a 11-3 run to take a two point lead at the 1:04 mark, 30-28.

Pineville tied the score at 30 with 20 seconds on the clock, but a three pointer by Moons put the Lady Dawgs up by three as the quarter ended, 33-30.

The Lady Lions came back in the fourth quarter, not giving up so easily as Pineville made two free throws and a field goal to take a one point lead, 34-33.

Aysha Sutton added a field goal to regain the lead, but a free throw by Pineville tied the score at 35 at the 2:34 mark.

Mann hit a field goal at the 1:20 mark to take a two point lead, 37-35. The Lady Dawgs recovered the ball at the 1:10 mark on a Pineville turnover and ran the clock down to 38 seconds when Mann was sent to the line on a foul.

Mann hit two of two for a four point lead, 39-35. With 27 seconds on the clock, Pineville hit two free throws to cut the lead to two points, 39-37.

Mann was sent to the line again with 21 seconds remaining where she again dropped two of two.

As the final seconds ran out, Moons was fouled with 1.8 seconds on the clock. She hit both free throws to give the Lady Dawgs the 43-37 win.

The Lady Dawgs hosted Metcalfe County on Thursday for the first game against the Lady Hornets for district seeding.

Clinton County started out with Moons hitting a basket for a quick 2-0 lead.

Metcalfe County quickly scored to tie the score at 2-2. Moons again hit a field goal to give the Lady Dawgs a two point edge, 4-2, but a field goal and a three pointer by Metcalfe County put the Lady Hornets up by three, 7-4.

Moons and Sutton combined with field goals to retake the lead, 8-7, but a field goal at the 2:37 mark put the Lady Hornets back on top, 9-8.

Mann hit two free throws and a field goal to give the Lady Dawgs a three point lead with 1:32 on the clock, but Metcalfe County finished the quarter out with a basket to cut the Lady Dawgs’ lead to one, 12-11.

Metcalfe County opened up the second quarter with one free throw and a three pointer for a three point lead.

Mann answered with a field goal to cut the lead to one, 15-14.

At the 5:40 mark, Metcalfe County hit two field goals and one free throw for a 20-14 lead.

Cope hit a field goal at the 3:20 mark to cut the lead to four points, but Metcalfe County answered with a field goal of its own, 22-16.

At the 2:23 mark, Moons hit one of two from the foul line to cut the lead to six, 23-17, but Metcalfe County hit a three pointer for a nine point lead, 26-17, at the 2:11 mark.

Cope cut the lead to seven points on a field goal under the two minute mark, but two from the line by Metcalfe County pushed the Lady Hornets’ lead back to nine, 28-19.

Clinton County then put together a 6-0 run to cut the lead to three points with 41 seconds on the clock, 28-25.

Metcalfe County had the final say in the half with a field goal to lead by six points at the break, 31-25.

Clinton County started the second half on a good note as Mann dropped in a field goal to cut the lead to four points, 31-27.

Metcalfe County then hit back-to-back field goals for an eight point lead with 5:40 on the clock.

Moons dropped in a bucket at the 3:59 mark, but Metcalfe County answered with a field goal of its own, 37-29.

At the 3:01 mark, Cope got a field goal to cut the lead to six again, but Metcalfe answered with two field goals for a 41-31 lead.

Moons hit a free throw with 31 seconds remaining in the period, but Metcalfe County knocked down a three pointer for a third quarter score, 44-32.

Metcalfe County continued to pull away in the fourth quarter. The Lady Dawgs did manage to put up 14 points in the final period, but Metcalfe County put up 13 and already had a commanding lead at the end of the third.

By the final buzzer, Clinton County came out with the loss, 57-46.

On Tuesday night of last week, Clinton County played host to 4th Region opponent Logan County.

It wasn’t until the 5:31 mark in the first quarter before either team would score when Mann dropped in the first bucket of the game, 2-0.

Logan County then came back and hit two free throws and a field goal for a two point lead, 4-2.

Sutton dropped in a three pointer to take a one point lead, but Logan County hit a field goal to regain the lead, 6-5.

Sutton again put one down from behind the three point line for an 8-6 lead with 3:05 on the clock.

Logan County tied the score at the 2:31 mark. Cope broke the tie with a free throw with 1:39 on the clock.

The Lady Cougars put a basket in a the buzzer for a one point lead after one, 10-9.

At the start of the second quarter, the Lady Dawgs came out swinging, putting together a 6-0 run for a five point lead, 15-10.

Logan County then hit a field goal to cut the lead to three, but Clinton County’s Moons, Mann and Harlan added seven more points to the board for a 22-12 lead.

Logan County then added two free throws and a field goal to cut the lead to six points at the 1:20 mark, 22-16.

Moons hit a basket with 17 seconds remaining for an eight point lead, but Logan County hit one free throw at the end of the half for a halftime score of, 24-17.

At the start of the second half, Logan County hit a three pointer to cut the lead to four points. Abbi Young answered with a three pointer of her own to push the lead to seven, 27-20.

Logan County then cut the lead to two points on a three pointer and a field goal, 27-25, with 5:26 on the clock.

Despite Clinton County’s efforts, the Lady Dawgs couldn’t pull away from Logan County, but managed to keep the lead up until 24 seconds on the clock, when Logan County took a two point edge, 39-37.

Young hit a three pointer with 16 seconds remaining and Mann hit a field goal as seconds ticked away to lead at the end of three, 42-39.

Clinton County continued to add points to the board with a basket by Mann in the first 15 seconds of the fourth quarter, 44-39.

Logan County then put together an 8-0 run to take a three point lead, 47-44.

Mann and Cope hit back-to-back field goals for a one point lead, 48-47.

Logan County tied the score at 48, but Mann hit a field goal at the 2:51 for a two point lead, 50-48.

The Lady Cougars then put four points on the board for a two point lead, 52-50. Cope cut the lead to one with one of two from the foul line, but Logan County hit two foul shots for a three point lead, 54-51.

At the 1:14 mark, Moon hit a basket to cut the lead to one point, 54-53. With 40 seconds remaining, Cope hit a basket to take a one point lead.

On the next possession, Clinton County held true on defense and managed to recover the ball on a blocked shot. Logan County immediately fouled Mann, sending her to the line for two shots.

Mann dropped both foul shots for a three point lead. On the last possession, Logan County couldn’t convert the tying shot, giving the win to the Lady Dawgs, 57-54.

Clinton County was back in action this week on Tuesday night (too late for press deadline) against Cumberland County.

The Lady Dawgs will travel to Monroe County on Friday night with a start time of 6 p.m.

Abbi Young put up a three point field goal during Clinton County’s game against Logan County last Tuesday, January 26. Young finished the game with nine points in the Lady Dawgs’ 57-54 victory.

Aysha Sutton knocked down a three point field goal during the first half against Logan County last week. Sutton finished with 10 points. The Dawgs hosted four different teams last week, finishing with a record of 2-2. Overall, Clinton County is 5-5 on the year.
