All ‘A’ Classic State Tournament canceled hours before Bulldogs leave for Richmond

This week’s storm system that blanketed the entire state with first ice, then snow, played havoc with events from one end of the state to the other.

One scheduled event that saw several changes due to the inclement weather affected the Clinton County High School boys’ basketball team, its fans and players’ parents.

After claiming the 4th Region Championship title a couple of weeks ago with a win over Metcalfe County, the Bulldogs were set to head to Richmond, Kentucky earlier this week to get ready for a first round state tournament game on Tuesday afternoon in McBrayer Arena on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University.

However, with roads across Kentucky coated with ice, sleet and snow, and crews unable to clear them sufficiently to allow for safe travel to the tournament site, a decision was made mid morning Tuesday to officially cancel the event, the day the tournament was actually set to start.

The 32 team tournament features 16 teams from the boys division and 16 teams from the girls division that have claimed regional championships.

Word about the prospect of playing the tournament changed several times from Monday morning through Tuesday morning, when the decision to ultimately cancel the event was officially sent out by tournament officials.
