All ‘A’ Classic State Tournament time – nope

In this the year that absolutely nothing is for certain… well, that certainly has been the case this week.

On Sunday, the All ‘A’ Classic State Tournament was all “go” for this week in Richmond, although there was the likelihood that the schedule might be altered.

Then on Monday, word came that some teams were already in Richmond ready to go, apparently traveling in an effort to beat the arrival of the winter storm that had been forecast.

Monday’s news also noted that there would, in fact, be a state tournament, but the starting times would be altered. The games wouldn’t start until Tuesday afternoon, delaying some of the girls’ first round games and meaning that the semi-final games and championship games would be played all on Saturday.

Next, an updated set of brackets were sent out showing new start times that saw Clinton County facing its first round opponent Louisville Evangel Christian on Wednesday afternoon at 1:15. That newest set of brackets also had championship games for the tournaments set to be played on Sunday.

Then, on Tuesday morning, just as Coach Todd Messer and his Dawgs and crew were getting ready to leave Clinton County in private vehicles and head to Richmond for Wednesday’s game, came word to just sit still.

Next, yes, the news we were all dreading came in. The All ‘A’ Classic State Tournament had been canceled altogether.

In other words, to the teams that had not yet arrived in Richmond – stay at home, boys and girls.

No word yet on an attempt to re-schedule the 2021 event, but considering the logistics that are involved in what is actually the “world’s largest invitational high school basketball tournament”, I’m not expecting any news this year that a set of All ‘A’ Classic champions will be crowned.

Oh well – the year where nothing is for certain strikes again.

As us long-time Cincinnati fans say over and over again… “just wait until next year.”

The schedule, it is ‘a changing, again, and again

As I continue to note, the schedule continues to change.

COVID-19, and now the weather, makes the remaining basketball schedule a thing of ever constant change, and almost as soon as we write something down, you can mark it out and put it somewhere else.

The Lady Dawgs canceled a couple of games last week, and one this week hosting McCreary Central that was already an added contest. Of course, as you’ve already read above, the Bulldogs’ All ‘A’ appearance this week has been changed due to the weather, and those changes might not be the last ones.

As of this week, the remaining schedule looks like this.
