Wayne County Sheriff’s activity report

Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron has reported the following arrest activity during the past week:

Attempted murder,

drug charges

On February 17, 2021, deputies Jerry Coffey and Derek Dennis were following up on a suspected drug dealer.

The deputies located the suspect on East Highway 90 at 6:33 pm.

The operator then turned into the Valero station. Once a traffic stop was conducted, the driver of the vehicle tried to flee the scene, almost running over one of the deputies.

After the vehicle ignition was turned off by the second deputy, the driver refused to exit the vehicle and had to be removed by force.

When a female passenger exited the vehicle, drug paraphernalia items consistent with drug trafficking were noticed inside the vehicle in plain view of the deputies.

The deputies noticed the female had multiple injuries to her body with strangulation marks and black tape on her neck.

The female stated she had been beaten with a nail puller, tied up and was not allowed to leave since noon on this date.

A search of the vehicle resulted in over eight ounces of methamphetamine, 75 diazepam tablets, digital scales, plastic baggies consistent with drug trafficking and $833.00 in cash was seized.

Deputies charged and arrested Logan Criswell, of Monticello, Ky., for attempted murder of a police officer, kidnapping (with serious physical injury), strangulation-1st degree, assault-2nd degree (domestic violence), wanton endangerment-1st degree-Police Officer, wanton endangerment-1st degree, resisting arrest, trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to two grams of methamphetamine), trafficking in a controlled substance-3rd degree (greater than or equal to two but less than or equal to 120 drugs unspecified), possession of drug paraphernalia and for a traffic violation.

The female was taken to the Wayne County Hospital where she was admitted for treatment.

Criswell was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

Deputies Coffey and Dennis were assisted at the scene by Monticello Police Officer John Hurd, Lake Cumberland Drug Task Force Director Wayne Conn and Sheriff Catron.

The investigation is continuing by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Shaylyn Collins, of Columbia, Ky., was arrested for possession of a controlled substance-1st degree (methamphetamine) and for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Billy S. Hurt, of Monticello, Ky., was arrested on a Wayne County District Court Complaint Warrant of Arrest for trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to two grams of methamphetamine), possession of marijuana and for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Collins and Hurt were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

According to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron another arrest has been made in connection to the kidnapping of a female on February 17, 2021 with multiple other charges against Logan Criswell.

On February 19, 2021, Wayne County Sheriff’s ffice deputy Derek Dennis filed for a Wayne County District Court Complaint Warrant of Arrest for a Trenton Bell of Monticello, Ky.

In deputy Dennis’ complaint he stated that Bell had entered the vehicle of Logan Criswell while the female victim was tied up in the back seat. Dennis stated that Bell watched Criswell assault the victim with a nail puller (crow bar). Bell did not intervene to stop Criswell during the assault. Dennis also stated that Bell had made remarks to the victim during the assault.

After having the Complaint Warrant approved and signed, deputy Dennis arrested Bell on Bean Street at 1:30 am on February 20, 2021. Bell was then lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $50,000.00 cash only bond on the charge of assault-1st degree (complicity). Criswell also remains in the Wayne County Detention Center under a $50,000 cash or 2x property bond.

The case continueds to be investigated by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Drug Enforcement Agency.

At 11:15 pm on February 20, 2021, deputies Derek Dennis and Jerry Coffey conducted a traffic stop for a traffic violation on Columbia Avenue.

Deputy Dennis deployed deputy K-9 Unit Dunya for a free air sniff around the vehicle. Deputy Dunya alerted on the driver side of the vehicle. A search of the driver and of the vehicle resulted in methamphetamine, narcotic pills, digital scales and drug paraphernalia items known to be used in drug trafficking found.

Anthony Shaw, of Albany, Kentucky, was charged and arrested for trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (less than \two grams of methamphetamine), trafficking in a controlled substance-1st degree (greater than or equal to 10 drugs unspecified), possession of drug paraphernalia, no operator’s license and for traffic violation.

Shaw was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

In another arrest, Devin S. McFarland, of Monticello, Ky., was arrested for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

McFarland was lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.

Sheila Yates, of Monticello, Ky., was arrested for criminal trespassing-3rd degree.

Luis S. Rivera, of Monticello, Ky., was arrested for driving on a driving under the influence suspended operator’s license, failure of non-owner to maintain required insurance and for a traffic violation.

Yates and Rivera were lodged in the Wayne County Detention Center.
