Two people have been arrested and charged in connection with an armed robbery that occurred at Reed’s Grocery on Saturday, November 19.
Alphonso Duncan, Jr., 30, and Patrick Ray Stewart, 32, have been charged with first degree robbery.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:35 p.m. Saturday when officers said a black male entered the store, produced a handgun and demanded money from Reed Simpson, who was closing the store.
Simpson was alone at the time of the robbery, according to a report issued by the Monticello Police Department.
The perpetrator left the store with a bag containing cash in a gray or silver vehicle.
A short time later, law enforcement officers in Cumberland County located a vehicle matching the description of the robbery vehicle, traveling at a high rate of speed.
Kentucky State Police with the Columbia Post conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and found Duncan and Stewart in the vehicle.
Found inside the vehicle were several items including cash and a handgun.
The men were taken into custody in Cumberland County and transported to Adair County Detention Center.
The vehicle that the two men were in had been reported stolen from Pulaski County several days earlier.
The Monticello Police Department was assisted by the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department, Kentucky State Police, Burkesville Police Department, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department and Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with any information should contact the police department at (606) 348-9313.
