Winter is winding down and many residents’ favorite season, spring, is now just days away. And the season isn’t a favorite just because it brings warmer weather, and greenery to the landscape, but longer days with more daylight.

The month of March not only ushers in springtime in Kentucky and many other parts of the country, but also brings Daylight Saving Time back for about a seven month stretch, meaning an extra hour of light to the day and shorter nights.

A reminder to our readers that Central Daylight Saving Time officially begins at 2 a.m. this Sunday morning, March 14. People need to set their time clocks and watches “forward” one hour prior to bedtime Saturday or first thing Sunday morning.

Also, the changing of the clocks is a good time to check and/or change batteries in your home’s smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Daylight Saving Time will remain until the first Sunday in November.
