COVID-19 cases in Clinton County dropped to just one active case by Tuesday morning of this week, a patient who is being treated for the disease in an area hospital, according to the Lake Cumberland District Heatlh Department.
During the past week of case count information briefs, Clinton County had one new case added to its rolls, while during the same time there were four cases removed from the active category and placed into the released numbers.
Clinton County also had two additional deaths added to its rolls, the result of the LCDHD officials working with Kentucky health agency officials to review and reconcile records during the now nearly 14 month long pandemic.
Both of the deaths added to the Clinton County rolls were patients who died earlier this year, had been released from the active or currently contagious listing, but later passed away due to lingering complications from the disease.
Those two new deaths on the Clinton County rolls bring the number of deaths during the pandemic to 32.
To date, Clinton County has had a total of 1,448 known COVID-19 cases among it’s population since March, 2020, when the pandemic first began in Kentucky.
Clinton County was one of eight counties in the 10 county LCDHD area that was listed as being in the “yellow” rate of spread, or Community Spread category of greater than 1-10 per 100,000 population.
Casey County and Taylor County were the only two counties that were listed in the “orange accelerated” range of community spread, with a rate greater than 10-25 per 100,000 population.
Vaccines continue to be available at the Welcome Center, through a clinic sponsored by The Med Center at Albany, and walk-in appearances for the vaccines are now being accepted.
Appointments for getting the vaccine are still available, and may be obtained by texting SHOT to 606-387-3646 or by emailing AlbanyVaccine@mchealth.net, or by calling 606-387-3646 and leaving a message.
In addition, the LCDHD announced this week that with the resumption of the use of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, which the agency administers, they would soon begin offering vaccines again.
“The CDC and the FDA have approved the resumption of utilizing the Johnson and Johnson vaccine,” Monday’s information brief noted. “We will be resuming Johnson and Johnson clinics soon.”
Across the 10 county district, the remaining nine county case totals and the number of hospitalized patients in parentheses were: Adair 11 (2), Casey 18 (4), Cumberland 0, Green 4 (1), McCreary 8 (7), Pulaski 36 (7), Russell 5 (0), Taylor 33 (2), Wayne 3 (1).
There are currently 119 active cases across the 10 county LCDHD district, with 25 of those being hospitalized, compared with 135 cases and 16 hospitalitized patients a week ago.
To date, the district has reported 21,819 total cases of COVID-19, with 417 deaths that have been directly attributed to the disease.
