A man accused of driving a vehicle in a crash in Clinton County that killed an Albany woman has been indicted for murder and a host of other charges by the Clinton County Grand Jury.
Convening on April 8, the grand jury charged Jesse W. Brown, age 31, of Monticello, with murder in relation to the accident that occurred on January 9 of this year. The charge is a Class A felony.
According to the citation issued by the Kentucky State Police at the time of the incident, Jesse Brown told authorities that he had been told by Jesus to cause a wreck in order to save the life of his seven month old son, who was in the vehicle with him at the time.
“Brown stated that Dalton had died and Jesus told him that if he would hit the oncoming car, Dalton would be brought back to life and things would be better,” the citation said.
The incident report also claims the defendant had reportedly caused other vehicles to run off the road prior to the fatal collision.
The grand jury alleges that on or about January 9, the defendant committed the offense of murder “when he operated his motor vehicle on the opposite side of the roadway striking an oncoming vehicle, intentionally, or he was wantonly engaged in conduct which created a grave risk of death to another, and thereby caused the death of Debra Brown.”
He is also charged with three counts of wanton endangerment, a Class D felony, when the grand jury alleged he was holding his minor child in his arms under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances when he struck Brown’s vehicle head-on, and ran another vehicle off the roadway, said vehicle having both the driver and a passenger in the vehicle.
Brown was also charged with four counts of first degree persistent felony offender as a result of the fatal wreck, having stood convicted of two prior felony offenses within the past five years.
Other than murder and wanton endangerment, the defendant was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence and several traffic violations, including failure to wear seat belt; reckless driving; failure to maintain insurance; leaving the scene of an accident/failure to render aid or assistance; speeding; and, failure to use child restraint.
KSP Trooper Jason Warinner, who investigated the fatality, was a witness before the grand jury.
