For the first time since the very first weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic reached Kentucky and Clinton County some 14 months ago, there was absolutely no movement in the case count during the past seven day period, according to figures released by the Lake Cumberland District Health Department.

As of Tuesday morning of this week, the LCDHD reported no new cases of positive COVID-19 in Clinton County, and the county continues to have a single patient in its rolls, who for the past several weeks is being listed as hospitalized.

With no new cases added, and none being released during the past seven day period, Clinton County again moved into the most favorable level of seven day incidence rate per 100,000 population of “On Track” or “green”.

Clinton County was the only county in the 10 county LCDHD area that was listed in the “green” level of spread, meaning that less than one case per 100,000 population has been found in a seven day period.

Four counties were listed in the second lowest category, or the “yellow-community-spread” category, Cumberland, Green, McCreary, and Wayne with a level referred to as “community spread” meaning between 1-10 cases per 100,000 population.

The remaining five counties in the LCDHD, Adair, Casey, Pulaski, Russell, and Taylor, are still in the “orange accelerated” level of case spread per 100,000 population, or at a rate of 10-25 cases.

Clinton County has been the hardest hit county in the 10 county LCDHD area, in terms of number of cases per 100,000 population, as well as one of the hardest hit counties in the state and nation.

With a total of 1,448 documented cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic in March, 2020, Clinton County’s case number when compared to the 10,000 population number, has been 1,417, well above the next closest stricken county in the district, Taylor County, with a case rate of 1,179 per 10,000 population

Vaccines continue to be available at the Welcome Center, through a clinic sponsored by The Med Center at Albany, and walk-in appearances for the vaccines are now being accepted.

Appointments for getting the vaccine are still available, and may be obtained by texting SHOT to 606-387-3646 or by emailing AlbanyVaccine@mchealth.net, or by calling 606-387-3646 and leaving a message.

In its report on Monday evening, the LCDHD made no mention of when it will begin administering the Johnson and Johnson vaccine again through its county health department outlets.

Across the 10 county district, in addition to Clinton County’s single current case of COVID-19, the remaining nine count case totals and the number of hospitalized patients in parentheses were: Adair 10 (2), Casey 16 (3), Cumberland 1 (0), Green 5 (0), McCreary 5 (2), Pulaski 45 (4), Russell 10 (0), Taylor 29 (2), and Wayne 3 (0).

There are currently 125 active cases of COVID-19 in the LCDHD district, up slightly from last week’s case county of 119.

However, the number of hospitalized patients being treated for COVID-19 was slightly down from a week ago, 14 compared to 16, respectively.

To date, the district has experienced 21,952 cases during the pandemic, with 423 deaths that have been directly attributed to the disease.
