For the third straight week, there were minimal changes in the number of COVID-19 cases in Clinton County during the past seven day period, according to daily reports released by the Lake Cumberland District Health Department.

As of Tuesday morning of this week, there had been one new case of a patient who had tested positive for COVID-19 in Clinton County during the past week.

That new case was listed on the report last Tuesday, May 4, which, at the time, brought the total number of cases involving Clinton County patients to two.

On the following day, however, a patient was released from the county roll as being no longer contagious.

The reports continue to show that a single patient from Clinton County continues to be listed in its roll. For the past several weeks, that patient has been listed as being treated in a hospital.

Clinton County, due to the single new case and case release during the past week, was moved from the most desirable (green) On Track level of spread, into the next highest level, the yellow, or Community Spread, level with between 1 to 10 cases per 100,000 population during a seven day period.

Five counties in the LCDHD 10 county district, were listed in the yellow level of case spread, with Cumberland, Green, McCreary and Wayne County listed with Clinton County at that level.

The remaining five counties were in the next highest level, the Orange Accelerated Spread with a case rate between 10 and 25 cases per 100,000 population.

Having had 1,449 cases among our residents since the pandemic began in March, 2020, Clinton County has been the hardest hit county in the LCDHD area, in relation to the number of cases per 100,000 population.

Vaccines continue to be available at the Welcome Center, through a clinic sponsored by The Med Center at Albany, and walk-in appearances for the vaccines are now being accepted.

Appointments for getting the vaccine are still available, and may be obtained by texting SHOT to 606-387-3646 or by emailing AlbanyVaccine@mchealth.net, or by calling 606-387-3646 and leaving a message.

Across the 10 county district, in addition to the single case of a Clinton County resident, the remaining nine county case totals and the number of patients being treated in area hospitals in parentheses were: Adair 24 (2), Casey 17 (1), Cumberland 1 (0), Green 3 (0), McCreary 13 (3), Pulaski 44 (1), Russell 11 (0), Taylor 27 (0), Wayne 5 (0).

There are currently, as of Tuesday morning, 146 active cases of COVID-19 in the LCDHD district, an increase of 21 new cases from last week’s case count of 125.

This is the second straight week that the total cases have increased in the district. However, it is also the second straight week that the number of patients being treated in area hospitals has decreased.

Eight patients were hospitalized in the district as of Tuesday morning, compared with 14 patients the week prior.

To date, the district has experienced 22,144 cases during the pandemic, with 426 deaths that have been directly attributed to the disease, an increase of three deaths during the past week within district cases.
