Congrats to the grads, athletes or not

Last weekend was a busy one for certain, both on our highways and our waterways, with the Memorial Day holiday traffic.

Things were also busy at Clinton County High School on Friday evening with the graduation ceremonies for the 2021 graduating class.

Among those graduates were a host of young adults who proudly wore the blue and white uniform of our high school for one or more teams of the many sports offered now.

Graduates, thank you for your efforts, and parents, congratulations as well and know that those efforts through the years are appreciated by both your athletes and the fans, sitting through the many practice sessions, working to get your young athlete to games with clean uniforms and making sure their grades stayed up, as well as traveling all over the state and sitting on hard, uncomfortable bleachers, eating bad popcorn, just to mention a few of the hardships you endured.

Athletes, now that you are graduated and heading toward that next chapter of your life, be sure and take a minute or two and thank whomever it was in your life who made that extra effort during your elementary, middle and high school years on the playing floor, field, court or course.

I guarantee you that for the rest of your life, you will find yourself using the lessons you have learned from being a part of a team.

Also, now that you are a graduate, don’t forget to come back around from time to time and be a true big blue fan, cheer for the young athletes who are following you and will be wearing the big blue uniform next.

You can remember that having fans in the stands mattered when you were playing, so give it back a little from time to time and take in a game yourself as a fan.

You might be a graduate at this point, but there is one thing that will never change…

Once a Bulldog, always a Bulldog.

And again, congratulations.
