Active COVID-19 cases in Clinton County continued a slight downward trend over the past week, according to a report released by the Lake Cumberland District Health Department.

After reaching a pandemic high of 159 active cases two weeks ago, the number of active cases has gradually decreased on a daily basis, with more cases being released than new cases being added.

As of Monday of this week, the last day of case reports prior to this week’s press-time, Clinton County had 43 active cases, compared with 123 active cases a week earlier.

On Monday, 10 new cases had been added for the last reporting day of the week, bringing the total of new cases added for the week to 58.

During that same week, the LCDHD reported that 148 cases had been released from isolation as being no longer contagious.

Last week’s single high day of new cases came on Wednesday, when 17 new cases were added to the active list, while the same number of cases were released that day.

The largest difference in new cases being added and cases being released came last Tuesday, when 15 cases were added to the active list, while 88 cases were released.

As of Monday’s report, Clinton County had three patients who were being treated in hospitals for the COVID-19 infection.

During the past week, there were no new deaths reported due to patients suffering from COVID-19.

During the pandemic, Clinton County has reportedly had 33 patients die from the disease.

As for the vaccination rate, Clinton County made a noticeable improvement during the week, moving up from next to last in the 10 county LCDHD region, to eighth place ahead of McCreary County and Adair County.

Although still trailing far behind Kentucky’s overall claimed rate of 59 percent, Clinton County’s vaccination rate as of Monday was 37.2 percent, an increase from the 30.07 rate at the end of the previous week’s reporting period.

Cumberland County is listed as being 39.69 percent vaccinated, while the district is led by Taylor County at a rate of 51.20 percent.
