Dawgs have tough time in home opener, but fan support is phenomenal

The Gridiron Dawgs could never get their game in much of a forward gear Friday night when they played on Bulldog Field for the first time this season.

Losing to the Hornets of Metcalfe County 34-6, the Bulldogs moved to a 0-5 mark on the year, and 0-1 in district play.

The Dawgs fell behind early and were never able to get their game turned around as the night continued.

Clinton County will travel up the road a little this Friday night to take on the Dragons of Green County in another game against a district opponent.

The Dragons appear to have things going this year and will be hosting Clinton County Friday night with a 4-0 record, 1-0 in district play, and are coming off a 36-7 win over district opponent Monroe County this past Friday night.

Kick-off Friday night in Green County is set for 7:00 p.m.

Although the Dawgs took the hard loss Friday night, there were some very positive aspects around the evening at Bulldog Field.

First of all, Bulldog Field itself looks fantastic, with the new turf having gotten a fantastic growth start after being installed earlier this summer.

The playing field is second to none in this area, as far as natural turf surfaces are concerned.

Secondly, the crowd and community support for the Bulldogs and the football program as the players not only took the field, but, also prior to the game in the Meet the Bulldogs event.

A great crowd was in the stands for the opening kickoff Friday night, and it was an enthusiastic crowd as well.

At the parking lot gathering earlier that afternoon, a nice crowd of fans,as well as businesses and organizations, were on hand to get the home season started and finally get the chance to “Meet the Bulldogs” who are representing our county and school for this 2021 season.
