On September 18, 2021, three strength athletes from Albany, Ashley Stearns, Bryant Hadley, and Clint Poore, competed in the 2021 UPS Plane Pull for Special Olympics. The team pulled a UPS Boeing 757 cargo plane weighing over 155,000 lbs and each team competing had to pull the plane 12 feet, with the fastest time winning.

More than 20 teams competed and Poore’s team, the Darkside Hornets, competed in the co-ed division. The Darkside Hornets team consisted of 12 men and 8 women. The team had three pulls to achieve the fastest possible time. The Hornets team pulled the massive UPS Plane the required 12 feet in 6.64 seconds on their final pull. The 6.64 seconds pull was fast enough to win the co-ed division. With more than 20 teams competing in the Plane Pull competition, all the teams combined raised more than $68,000 for Kentucky Special Olympics.

“It was an exciting event that everyone felt honored to be a part of and to support the Special Olympics,” Poore said.
