Lady Dawgs, Bulldogs get 2021-22 campaign off on the right foot
There is no better start to a basketball season than to win the first game on the schedule.
Monday night, in an arena that has traditionally not been a favorite place for Clinton County basketball, both the Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs did just that with a one-two punch to their Allen County / Scottsville High School counterparts.
In the opening contest, Clinton County’s Lady Dawgs jumped out to an impressive opening lead in the first quarter, then fought off a comeback effort by the Lady Patriots.
The Lady Bulldogs eventually fell behind, then showed some backbone and grit to come back and not only send the game into overtime, but come out on the other side of the final buzzer with a “W” for themselves and first-year Lady Dawg Head Coach Tim Moons.
The 56-54 OT win for the Lady Bulldogs will set the stage for them to look for their second win on the year this Thursday night in Clinton County’s home opener as they host the Lady Raiders from McCreary Central.
Junior Varsity tips off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity contest.
In Monday’s nightcap contest, another up and down battle gave the fans on hand their money’s worth, at least for a while.
The Bulldogs ran out to a comfortable lead on a couple of occasions but, early in the second half, looked a little too comfortable as they seemed to move into “trotting” speed to get the second half underway, allowing the Patriots to jump back into contention.
Veteran Head Coach Todd Messer sat his top players on the bench and let them watch the underclassmen for a few trips up and down the floor – who, held their own, by the way.
As the Bulldogs were returned to full strength, they came back in proper fashion and before long, the Patriots were staring their home court opening game defeat straight in the Bulldog face and Clinton County left the floor with an impressive 18 point victory, 60-42.
The Dawgs will hit the floor on Friday night for their home opener in a double header varsity night, hosting Franklin-Simpson.
The Lady Dawgs tip off at 6:00 p.m.
Bottom line, it was a great start to what should shape up to be a fast and furious 2021-22 roundball campaign.
Get in on this early – it looks like it’s going to be a fun run.
