Lady Dawgs start season 1-0

The Clinton County Lady Bulldogs pulled off an impressive overtime win during its first outing of the 2021-2022 season, picking up the two point win over Allen County/Scottsville, 56-54.

Clinton County started the game with a first quarter lead of 11-2 before Allen County/Scottsville knocked down a three pointer to end the quarter, 11-5.

Allen County/Scottsville fought back and tied the score at 13 with 4:54 on the clock.

Landree Moons hit a basket to regain the lead, 15-13 at the 4:32 mark, but a four point swing by Allen County/Scottsville put the Lady Patriots up by two, 17-15.

Aysha Sutton put in two of her team high 17 points at the 2:01 mark to tie the score at 17.

Allen County/Scottsville took the lead on a pair of free throws, but Sutton again tied the score on a short sided jumper, 19-19.

The Lady Patriots answered with a three pointer, but Sutton cut the lead to one point on a field goal, 22-21.

Allen County/Scottsville added to its score with a basket just before the half ended, 24-21.

It took a while for either team to find a basket in the second half, but Sara Turner finally broke the silence with a field goal to cut the lead to one point, 24-23.

Allen County/Scottsville went up by four points on a field goal and a free throw, but Ashton Daniels knocked down one of her three second half three pointers to cut the lead to one, 27-26.

The Lady Patriots reached a five point lead on a field goal and two free throws before Daniels again knocked down a three pointer to cut the lead to two points with 2:50 remaining in the period, 31-29.

The Lady Dawgs allowed Allen County/Scottsville to score back-to-back field goals to reach a six point lead with 2:06 on the clock.

Clinton County then put together a 5-0 run to end the quarter trailing by one point, 35-34.

That 5-0 run continued in the fourth quarter as Clinton County finished with a 16-0 run before Allen County could find a basket.

With the Lady Dawgs leading, 45-35, Allen County put together a 11-2 run of its own to cut the lead to one point, 47-46, with 35 seconds remaining in regulation.

With 15 seconds remaining, Sutton knocked down two free throws to put the Lady Dawgs’ up by three points, 49-46.

Allen County/Scottsville made a three pointer with six seconds remaining to tie the score at 49 all.

Clinton County’s final 4.3 seconds resulted in a missed opportunity to win the game in regulation and send it into overtime.

In overtime, Makenzie Cope put the Lady Dawgs up by two with a field goal, but a three pointer by Allen County/Scottsville gave the Lady Patriots a one point advantage, 52-51.

Cope again answered with a field goal to regain the lead, 53-52.

Both teams worked hard on defense, and with 19 seconds remaining, Sutton hit two free throws to put the Lady Dawgs up by three points, 55-52.

With 15 seconds remaining, Allen County took possession and ended up scoring a field goal to cut the Lady Dawgs’ lead to one point, 55-54.

Allen County/Scottsville then fouled Moons on the inbound pass, sending her to the line for two shots with 2.8 on the clock.

Moons hit the first, but missed the second one. Allen County rebounded the ball and heaved a half court shot for the win, but missedthe mark, giving the Lady Dawgs a two point win in overtime, 56-54.

Clinton County will be back in action on Thursday at Lindle Castle Gymnasium to host McCreary Central. The Lady Dawgs will also play at home Friday night in the first game of a girls’/boys’ double header against Franklin-Simpson.
