The Clinton County Lady Bulldogs traveled to Bowling Green before Christmas to play in the Greenwood Tournament and finished the week 0-3 with losses to Marion County, Casey County and Greenwood.
The Lady Dawgs are back in action this week in neighboring Cumberland County for a post-Christmas tournament. Clinton County played one game on Monday of this week, two games on Tuesday and one on Wednesday. Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s games will appear in next week’s edition of the Clinton County News.
Monday’s game was a fast paced game that saw Clinton County go up 18-0 before McCreary Central would score.

The Lady Dawgs traveled to Cumberland County to play in the Don Franklin Classic tournament on Monday of this week and Clinton County made a bold statement right out of the gate.
The Lady Dawgs pressed and trapped in the first quarter in order to go up 18-0 before McCreary Central would score.
At the 3:26 mark, the Lady Raiders made its first basket of the game.
By the end of the first quarter, Clinton County was well in control of the game with a 24-6 lead.
The Lady Dawgs didn’t slow down from that point on, as Clinton County had a 22 point lead at the half, 42-20, and led 54-28 by the end of the third quarter.
During the fourth quarter, Clinton County hit a dry spell on offense, but the damage had already been done.
McCreary Central outscored the Lady Dawgs 12-7 in the final quarter, but it was too little too late for the Lady Raiders.

Greenwood Tourney

The Lady Dawgs started off on the right foot last week as Clinton County took on Marion County in the opening game of the Greenwood Tournament.
Makenzie Cope led all scorers with six points in the first quarter, followed by Aysha Sutton with four and Tatum Harlan with four, as Clinton County led 14-11 after one.
Marion County’s scoring picked up in the second quarter as the Maroons picked up 16 points to Clinton County’s 10 to lead at the break, 27-24.
The third quarter is where Clinton County fell too far behind, as Marion County posted 14 points to Clinton County’s eight. The Lady Dawgs only recorded two points each from Sutton, Cope, Harlan and Mailee Boils.
At the end of three, Clinton County trailed 41-32.
The final quarter saw both teams match each other point for point, but the damage from Marion County had already been done, as Clinton County fell by a final score of 54-45.

The Lady Dawgs got down early in its second game of the tournament against Casey County.
Clinton County recorded baskets by Sutton and Cope, as well as one free throw by Turner, for five first quarter points.
Casey County managed to put up 17 in the first quarter to lead, 17-5.
The Lady Dawgs fought back in the second quarter, holding Casey County to only six points the entire period.
Clinton County posted 16 points in the quarter with Sutton scoring eight of those.
At the half, Clinton County had clawed its way back in the game and trailed by only two points, 23-21.
The Lady Dawgs fell a little more behind during the third quarter, only posting 13 points to Casey County’s 17.
Cope finished the quarter with a field goal and a three pointer, while Sutton had two free throws, Harlan had a field goal and two free throws and Chloe Longwell scored a single basket.
By the end of the third quarter, Clinton County trailed, 40-34.
The final quarter wasn’t kind to the Lady Dawgs, only posting eight points during the eight minute period.
Casey County managed to put up 10 points in the period and pick up the eight point win, 50-42.

The Lady Dawgs came out against tournament host Greenwood last Wednesday and led the game after the first quarter by putting up 14 points to Greenwood’s eight.
Turner led scoring for the Lady Dawgs with four points, followed by three points from Ashton Daniels, and two each from Harlan, Cope and Sutton.
The tables turned for the Lady Dawgs in the second quarter as Greenwood posted 22 points. Clinton County’s offense was lacking a bit as the team scored only nine points during the period.
The Lady Dawgs trailed at the half, 31-23.
Clinton County came out after halftime and continued to struggle on offense.
During the eight minutes of play, Clinton County managed to put up 12 points, but Greenwood posted 17 to lead the game, 48-35.
Clinton County did manage to outscore the Lady Gators in the final quarter, but the damage had already been done, as Clinton County fell 66-54.
