Dawgs fall to Jackson County

The Clinton County Bulldogs only had one game on the schedule this week. The Dawgs picked up a loss to Jackson County in overtime, putting its record at 14-4 on the year.

The Dawgs didn’t start out on the right foot Saturday afternoon during its road trip to Jackson County.

With scoring from Bryson Cross, Cohen Davis, Nick Delk, Braden Stockton, two points each, and four points from Blake Melton, the Dawgs were still down 16-12 after one.

Things picked up in the second quarter as Clinton County nearly doubled its scoring while holding Jackson County to 12 points total for the period.

The Dawgs scored 19 in the second quarter to hold a 31-28 lead at the half.

Scoring for the Dawgs slacked up a bit in the third quarter, as Jackson County outscored the Dawgs, 14-12. By the end of the period, Clinton County held on to a one point lead, 43-42.

There wasn’t much scoring by either team during the fourth quarter as both teams combined for 23 points, 12-11 in favor of Jackson County.

Five of Clinton County’s 11 fourth quarter points came from Delk, while baskets from Davis, Adam Hay and Blake Melton factored into the final score of regulation at 58.

With a minute remaining in the game and the score tied at 58, Clinton County held the ball to try and get a final shot off before the buzzer sounded. After more than a minute of holding the ball, a turnover with 2.2 seconds gave the ball back to Jackson County, but notshot was made for the win, sending the game into overtime, 58-58.

During the overtime period, Clinton County went cold as ice, only scoring four points and all four points coming from the foul line.

Two players for Jackson County combined to reach 13 points in overtime and propel the Generals to a 67-58 win.

Clinton County was back in action on Tuesday of this week, too late for press deadline, and will be back in action on the local hardwood Friday night to host Russell County. Tip off is set to follow the girls’ varsity game.
