Golf enthusiasts have a handful of accomplishments that can translate into “bragging rights” among fellow golfers, a hole-in-one likely being the most bragged about accomplishment, followed by a double-eagle and an eagle.

Gene Latham of the college community Snow in Central Clinton County, has long been a well known local golfer and this past weekend, he finished the club championship at Monticello Country Club by achieving yet another coveted feat in the sport.

Latham, shown above during last week’s tournament, who is 84 years old, finished the tournament by shooting his age on two levels. In fact, he did that one better, by actually shooting a first round 81, three strokes below his age, and according to his son Barney, “blew up a little” on Sunday and finished with an 86 in the final round. Still, the sum of those two rounds, 81 and 86, averages out to 83.6, still below his actual age of 84 years.

Latham is a retired school teacher with the Clinton County School system and now is a farmer and owner of Snowy Mountain Farms, in the Snow Community of central Clinton County.
