The Lady Bulldogs move to 5-12 on the year after picking up two losses last week, one at the hands of a district opponent, Metcalfe County, 66-44. The other loss came Monday night as Clinton County traveled to McCreary County to take on the Lady Raiders, 65-56.

The Lady Bulldogs fell Friday night at the hands of the Lady Hornets of Metcalfe County.

The game started off in favor of the Lady Dawgs as Clinton County opened up with a 4-0 lead off baskets by Breonia Thurman and Ansley Stalcup.

Metcalfe County quickly came back and tied the score at four by working into a full court press on defense. Clinton County struggled to get the ball up the floor during the first quarter, but took the lead when Thurman went to the line and made two free throws.

Metcalfe County moved ahead with a three pointer, but Alex Beard grabbed a rebound and made a putback to regain the lead, 8-7.

The Lady Hornets hit two from the foul line with 4:13 on the clock, followed by a three pointer a minute later to grab a four point lead, 12-8.

Metcalfe County started controlling the game and finished with a three point lead after the first quarter of play was over, 15-12.

As the beginning of the second quarter got underway, the Lady Hornets scored three points right out of the gate, but a three pointer by Shyanne McWhorter cut the Lady Hornets lead to three, 18-15.

With 5:59 on the clock, Metcalfe County reached a five point lead, 20-15, but two shots from the foul line and a field goal by Thurman cut the lead to one point, 20-19. It seemed like the moment had arrived when the Lady Dawgs took control of the game with a basket by Thurman put the Lady Dawgs in the lead with 3:49 on the clock, 21-20.

The Lady Dawgs couldn’t quite get over the hump and continue scoring in the second quarter and Metcalfe County took advantage of that.

The Lady Hornets put together an 8-0 run with 3:31 on the clock to extend its lead to seven points, 28-21.

Alex Beard made a shot with less than a minute before halftime, but a Metcalfe County field goal sent both teams into the locker room with the Lady Hornets on top, 30-27.

Clinton County came out in the second half and continued to fight. Justice Boils made one free throw to cut the lead to six points, followed by a three pointer by Thurman, 32-27.

Metcalfe County then kicked into high gear and with a 5-0 run, grabbed the first 10 point lead of the game, 37-27.

McWhorter tried to stop the bleeding with a basket at the 3:49 mark, 37-29, but a 6-0 run put the Lady Hornets up by 14 with 1:59 on the clock, 43-29.

After both teams swapped baskets, 45-31, Metcalfe added two more points on free throws, but a basket by Beard that resulted in a three point play cut the lead to 13 points, 47-34.

Metcalfe finished the quarter with a field goal for a 15 point lead after three quarters of play, 49-34.

Although the game looked like it was in the bag for Metcalfe County, the Lady Dawgs never gave up, hitting a few baskets to keep the Lady Hornets honest. The game resulted in a 22 point win for the Lady Hornets, 66-44, by hitting three-three pointers, and getting two three point plays in the fourth quarter alone.
