The May Primary Election saw 25 percent of registered voters in Clinton County come to the polls last Tuesday, May 16, and Clinton County picked Kelly Craft as the Republican candidate for Governor in the fall. However, the state as a whole chose Daniel Cameron as the nominee.
Kraft won in Clinton County with 998 votes, with Cameron coming in second with 398 and Ryan Quarles coming in third with 265 votes.
On the Democratic side, Governor Andy Beshear won in Clinton County and statewide with 100 votes and 176,589 respectively.
Beshear received 91 percent of the state wide Democratic votes. Geoffrey M. “Geoff” Young came in second statewide with 9,865 votes, five in Clinton County, and Peppy Martin came in third statewide with 6,913 votes, four in Clinton County.
Statewide, as mentioned earlier, it was Cameron with the nod getting 48 percent of the Republican votes with 144,576.
Quarles came in second with 65,718 votes and Craft came in third with 52,170 votes.
In the Republican Secretary of State race, in Clinton County, it was Michael Adams leading the way with 1,252 votes. Adams also got the nod statewide with 64 percent of the votes at 171,391.
Stephen L. Knipper came in second state wide with 70,991, and Allen Maricle came in third with 25,771 votes.
In the Republican Auditor of Public Accounts race, in Clinton County, it was Allison Ball with 1,278 votes, and Derek Petteys with 321 votes.
Ball won state wide with 72 percent of the votes at 190,761, while Petteys secured only 72,589 votes.
Mark H. Metcalf got the nod state wide and in Clinton County for the Republican State Treasurer race. In Clinton County, Metcalf got 1,032 votes, while Andrew Cooperrider received 500 votes.
O.C. “OJ” Oleka came in third in the treasurer’s race in Clinton County with 86 votes. Oleka also came in third statewide with 9,489 votes.
In the final race of the May Primary, for the Republican Commissioner of Agriculture it was Jonathan Shell winning the race in Clinton County and statewide 1,074 votes and 148,170 respectively.
Richard Heath came in second with 574 votes in Clinton County and 114,368 statewide.
On the Democratic side for Commissioner of Agriculture, it was Sierra J. Enlow winning in Clinton County and statewide with 59 votes and 103,232 respectively.
Mikael Malone came in second with 41 votes in Clinton County and 72,478 statewide.
Clinton County had only 110 Democratic voters on Tuesday.
Statewide, only 14.45 percent of registered voters came to the polls Tuesday with 501,217 ballots cast among 3,468,537 registered voters in the State of Kentucky.
