Local business man, Josh Burchett, co-owner of Southend Restaurant, was involved a two-vehicle accident on Friday, October 13, 2023, at the intersection of Ky. Hwy. 1590 and 127 Bypass.
Burchett, 41, of Albany was traveling West when a Heartland Express semi truck driven by Michael Kimery of Mosheim, Tennessee, ran a red traffic light, striking Burchett’s vehicle in the rear quarter panel, according to Sheriff Ricky Marcum.
Burchett sustained multiple injuries and was air lifted to UK Medical Center. Burchett’s condition wasn’t released as of press deadline.
“Both vehicles were out of service. It was a hard hit for the semi to get damaged,” Marcum said. “Josh’s truck was totaled because it overturned and came to rest on that big metal light pole. He climbed out the back glass of the truck and was on his knees.”
Another wreck occurred Monday morning, October 16, involving a single vehicle on Hwy. 558 in front of Joan Deforest’s residence.
The name of the driver of the vehicle was not released, but he was transported to the Med Center Albany and treated for his injuries.
“During inclement weather, people need to slow down and take some precaution,” Marcum said. “How many wrecks have happened like the one this morning at Mrs. Joan’s house? So many.”
Marcum said the vehicle came around a curve, lost control and slid into a ditch, with moderate damage to the vehicle.
